I wanted to start a build thread on here.  Meant to do this years ago!  First ownership post to be followed by lots and lots of quotes from other threads.  It got interesting this year when I had some fun money to spend for a change!

Job done.

Picked up a cracking 1.8 GTi today.  The drive back was a dream.

Looking forward to some happy motoring and good, like-minded, anecdotal banter on here.

Cheers

Pic shortly after I picked it up and gave it a proper clean:

Just sat back thinking of all the stuff I've done to it over the years.  Working from front to back:

New headlights and trick headlight bulbs
Silvatec indicator bulbs
Replaced bonnet cable
Removed SAI pump and all fittings inc hardlines (with map decode)
N249 deleted
New N75
Replaced coil pack harness and all coils
Experimented with a few sets of new spark plugs
Fitted new injectors
Fitted Audi TT heat shields
Forge DV
Painted rocker cover
R32 intake snorkle, drilled and smoothed airbox
Pipercross panel filter
New oil cap, black coolant and washer fluid caps
Battery jacket
Belts, tensioner and water pump
New oil pump (preventative paranoid expensive repair)
Recharged air-con
New starter motor after trying the recon thing on original
Had a couple of flywheel/clutch combos on and off
Audi TT short shifter
Replaced all crankcase vapour pipework (soon to replace again with catch can!)
Anni aero wipers and new wiper mech
HR red springs on bilstein struts all round
New front discs and pads
Experimented with a few engine mounts
Newsouth boost gauge in column pod
Anni black headlining and all black fittings
Illuminated flush air vents
Custom Polo GTi gearknob and gaitor
Audi TT alloy pedals
Net optic stereo surround and black ashtray
Kenwood double DIN headunit
Heated seat switches (wired to nothing but look better)
New driver's seat foam
Black door handle pulls
Passat red x-box mirror switch
New heated mirror glass
Wired 2nd alarm LED into passenger door
Fitted vanstyle window tint panels
Genuine anni sideskirts in flat black to match valences
New rear discs and pads
20mm rear spacers on standard monty IIs (soon to be replaced with some Anni BBS RCs!)
New boot latch mech
Euro rear light clusters
De-badged boot
Sharan rear VW badge
mk5 rear wiper arm/blade
New rear wiper mech
Stubby OEM look aerial
Number plate surround
Tow eye cover

That's all I can think of for now.

Imminent jobs are getting the Anni wheels ready and fitted, enjoying them before winter sets in.  Fitting oil catch can at some point soon.

Extreme clean and wax up for winter.  My arms are still aching from all the buffing!  Looks the nuts (for now).

Something exhaust related has started to rattle/knock about at start up and buzzes at low revs.  Heat-shield, silencer baffles, maybe the cat?  Depending how serious it is, it could be time for an upgrade!

Exhaust problem was only a heat-shield and a dodgy rubber mount.  Fixed without much more fuss.
Got spending in the new year and added a 42draft catch can to the long list of things to fit in the spring / when I can be arsed.
Anni rims are all polished up, ready and waiting to be fitted when the weather cheers up a bit.
Maybe time for some more serious lows this year, funds permitting.

Spent the day over at TJGs replacing the door module and window glass.  With all that out I was planning to fit metal window hangers, but it already had them

Did the work in less than 2 hours with a couple of tea breaks.  Sorted!

All done I went to start the car up and it was just clicks, dull dash then nothing.  Dead as a dodo......
It had turned over slowly earlier that morning, I just thought it was because I hadn't used it much in the last fortnight.  Sourced a new battery chucked it in and all seems good.  Will just have to keep tabs on it, but thinking to maybe get the alternator checked out anyway.

Next job is oil service and fitting the catch can.  What else could go wrong when I tackle these?!?!?!?

Fitted a Polybush dog-bone mount a couple of weeks ago.  Not sure I like it so much, too much vibration on idle and same sensation when braking and engine speed has dropped.  Wish I'd kept the THS I had on a while ago!!!  Guess its back to standard or perhaps source an R32 one as they're stiffer  :undecided:

Fitted some Lupo stubby mirrors at the weekend.  They look immense.... in a tiny Lupo way!
