I was on these forums back in 2013 when the MK7 first appeared and people were ordering them. The 1 series was very much in the conversation then too! A few members were debating MK7 GTI versus BMW 135i and I remember a few went Bmw due to the horrendous waiting times for the Golf.

Good thread.

I'm enjoying checking in on here, Mk8 is growing (slowly) on me, apart from the Richmonds!

I genuinely feel I could sway back to a Golf again next year but that would probably be if I finally opt-out of having a company car.

I'm glad you feel that way Jim. I wondered if I should have gone for something like the 330e but if you're even considering coming back to the hot hatch then I think I've made the right choice with the Clubsport.
I've always had saloons from my Impreza STI to my A7 and wondered if I should go back that way...just because...no real reason.
I love my mk7.5 GTI so can only imagine how much more I'll love the new Clubsport!!
We are still pre kids so no need for anything bigger anytime soon! I'm sure the golf will do for the first one anyway

Hmmm...

My wife had her 218i M Sport delivered at the weekend. Yes, even car dealers can only offer a delivery service at the moment

The dynamic lights appear to work better on the BMW than my Mk7.5. Also, love the way the BMW cruise control uses the traffic sign recognition camera and offers to set that speed e.g. as soon as you leave a 30 just press set and the car automatically goes to 60.

I know the Mk8 has better lights, better cruise control, better adjustable suspension, head-up-display, and it is available in Reflex Silver... not sure that justifies changing. The GTI Clubsport does tempt me, but I find in the real world my Mk7.5 is more than fast enough.

Hope I can resist temptation and hang on for the Mk8.5.  :undecided:

I've had my 7.5 for just over a year so I won't be getting an 8 any time soon, but I still like to keep an eye on this forum for any news and developments.

I'll be most interested in how VW will facelift the Golf in a couple of years' time, if they take in the criticism over the styling and the infotainment system they may well earn my money.

Thank you....that’s what I intended. I sometimes feel the GTI forum gets a wee bit intensive and I like to remind myself I am so lucky being able to run a GTI of any kind.
I have never driven a more admired car than my string of GTIs. Or ever driven anything better.

I agree. Better in the flesh but only from some angles.
I think the genius of the 7 / 7.5 is that it looked great from every angle. Not a flabby bit in sight.
But I have no doubt the 8 is a great car ......at least the performance models.
I saw a grey 8 GTD at my local dealer the other day and was v impressed by the look.
Mind you, I have always thought the 7/ 7.5 GTD was exceptionally handsome in a tastefully understated way.
