We have opened a new two workshop bays just for VNT cleaning and DPF issues cleaning and removal

R-Tech VNT sticky turbo vanes repair   http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/t/393599.aspx

In 90% of cases this will stop overboost limp mode, return better MPG and make the car more responsive.

We also blueprint the VNT fittings and shims to allow for more clearance to help stop it happening again.

I have managed to save around 60+ Tdi owners £1200 each after main dealers have told them they need new turbo unit to stop the overboost.  :happy2:

When a  1.9 TDI sees 400mb overboost condition for more than 10 seconds then main fuel IQ map reverts to a generic setting for limp mode to reduce the engine power output, but becuase the VNT is sticky the turbo will continue to overspool/boost.
The constant overspool/ boosdepend on vanes position, but both conditions cause heat build up and can warp / melt the turbine tiops and vanes.  This happend more so on cars running stock mapping and can happen with less than 50k on the clock.

Pics of a VW Touran TDI 55k stock mapping which had the 17965 fault for 6month, this one we could not fix due to the melted parts..lol

I hope by posting this it saves someone splashing out £1200, when a basic £235 strip down and clean will fix the over boost in 90% of common 17965 faults.

26th July 2011 Job number 1
Stock mapped 2005 Audi A3 2.0TDI 140pd with 88k which has had sticky VNT for 3 months and only went into limp mode 5 times.
End result was melted turbine wheel tips and melted VNT vanes which has resulted in the turbo being a door stop.

We are now doing around 7 VNT turbo repairs each week, I would say 5 out of 10 TDis
with over 60k will suffer from sticky VNT and will have had a positive overboost fault code 17965.

Pictures below show the results of the:
17965 - Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation
P1557 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
