Title: Replacing shock
Post by: mistertee on 19 September 2020, 22:59
Hi,

I've got a leaking rear shock according to my last service, the dealership price is £425 which took me aback a bit.  I'm guessing because it's a DCC it's a bit more expensive.  I'll get some other quotes, but I'm guessing I'll have to specify a DCC shock to make sure everything's replaced like for like?

Anyone else got one replaced and how much did it cost in the end?

Thanks

I'd be replacing them in a pair instead of just one.

That might be for the pair?

I paid about £575 for the front 2(dcc) at a dealer

No garage would replace just one shock. Not a hard job if you are ok with a spanner, hardest part because it is fiddly is getting the wheel liner off. So may be worth getting a quote for parts only.

VW did replace just the front left when it had oil mist on it.
At that point the car was at 40k miles already

you'd think no garage would replace just one but a few years ago I had a MK4 golf and the dealer was only going to replace one shock. I had to complain to the service manager to get both replaced as a pair.

I agree, one shock was strange and I did make sure it was just the one.  I remember getting one replaced on warranty a few years back like @itavaltalainen, maybe Vw know something we don't?

I'll get some other quotes, if a dealership do 2 for £575, that's a great price!

Hey mate. Might I suggest pricing the shock and replacement bolts from VW. If I recall the cost was £260 mark plus say £15 for the bolts. The rear shock is straight forward to replace. You must replace the bolts though as all three of them are torque to yield bolts.
