Interesting what you said about the ride as i have just watched a review of a passive setup mk8 GTI before reading your coment. He seemed to say similar of the non clubsport too.

It’s an interesting piece- here’s the written version:

https://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-driven/vw-golf-gti-mk8-vs-vw-golf-gti-mk5/43536

A friend of mine has recently bought an absolute bargain mk5 which I drove for the first time.
Comparing to my mk7, initial throttle response is better ( you can fix that with a pedal box in mine if you want), steering has more feel (but isn’t as quick). Otherwise the mk7 is a big step up in every way.
I think one of the reasons the mk5 is so fondly remembered is that it followed years of terrible golf GTIs.
The mk8 has received a lukewarm reception because it has followed the excellent mk7.
It’s an interesting debate “ which gti is best “.

Saw this video the other day. Mk5 was the first gti I owned and it was just fantastic. Felt like a rocket ship compared to what I’d owned previously. Absolutely spot on about the throttle response compared to the Mk7 and really glad to hear the Mk8 seems to have solved this as my insurance company won’t play ball with a pedal box.

The mk5 started my obsession with gti ownership but the ed35 is the one that I shouldn’t have let go of. That’s my favourite.

This thread had me laughing a lot.

So it’s all change at Exonian Towers. I too will look forward to the detailed review of your Clubsport.

Someone else mentioned people’s review on test drives or ownership meaning more than journalist reviews, I agree. It’s far more useful feedback to other potential purchasers.

Heaviest wheel fitted to a gti ever..
Wow, that's progress! You have a link to the stats for that Fred?  :nerd:

Ahhh here you go:

12.2kg on the Mk8 vs 11.9kg max on the Mk7.

That slide also confirms what I saw on the OEM tyre choices too.

Reifnitz reps too? So what tipped you to the Michelins against the Goodyears?

I chose the Michelins as I’m boringly predictable.
They’re well proven and I had nothing but positivity from the last set I had (having been swayed by the enthusiasm for them from members on here and elsewhere leading to that purchase).

I bought the reps around new year not wanting to put anything too expensive on the car due to the shocking state of some of the roads I have to use daily which are truly third world. It’s taken me a few weeks to get my act together but life, work, weather and lockdowns all conspired.

A bit of a paradoxical partnership I know but hey ho!

19's??? It says PS4-S

What offset did you go for? I think people would like to hear that piece of info.

How is the ride now? You had 18's and no DCC.
