Because the 'original' isn't specialised enough?

It's also particularly heavily regulated and doesn't point to this site.

A resource 'owned' by this community makes a lot more sense.
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

As DH said, the original isn't specific enough. Same reason we use a Wiki in house at work now for technical solutions, that and we couldn't put our confidential customer info on it

As I said, giving certain knowledgeable/trusted members write & edit permissions there should be a minimum need for admin overhead  Give any person access and it'll go tits up.

Any "version" of any page can be rolled back to any previous version easily enough so that if misinformation does get added you can get the correct data back in a few clicks

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

OK, I have created a proof-of-concept-let's-try-it-and-see-if-we-can-break-it wiki

This is on my space.

I've used tikiwiki.

If people want to try it out and beat it with a stick and generally test out what we as a community could do, PM me and I'll set up access for you.

This is not trying to tread on anyone's toes, I'm just mucking about with the technology.

I really, REALLY like this idea.  It would work just like the Ross-Tech wiki - http://wiki.ross-tech.com, and as others have said, limit edit permissions to reliable, trusted members.

As a really valid example, it would seriously help dispel the myth, and associated crap around these unfounded claims that the Edition 30 engine is just a 'detuned S3 engine' when I know for a fact it aint.  I have a fairly detailed spreadsheet of all the component part numbers from all flavours of the 2.0 TFSI engine, and I reckon that a 'Golf GTI wiki' would be a really good place to host this kind of information.

I'd glady help out with editing and adding stuff - providing you think I'm knowledgeable and 'trustworthy'  :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed: :lipsrsealed:

What about starting with the basics... such as..

1.Years of the models
2.Engines in each model (different varients of 1.8t etc)
3.Differences within each marque i.e small bumpers etc and years they changed
4.Servicing guides
5.Basic guides for each vehicle.. ie lowering etc..

Then from there take it to the next level..

So like jamie was saying..

to build a 2.0 16v hi comp engine running so and so pistons...

Requirements for a Supercharged engine...

Requirements for a turbo engine

Best 1.8t to run per marque

Mk3 Golf Gti:Full Milltek system and Decat,K&N filter,mk2 Cam,-1.5 degree camber shims, borbet a's, toyo proxies, hot tuning coils, brembo vented discs, greenstuff pads...Soon to have Eaton Power

mk3 16v 5dr Gti,mintex extreme pads,drilled/grooved discs, lowered, cat back powerflow system, omp panel filter with modified airbox, debadged grill, started prep for spraying, lots to come :D

Bumper Vents :D

yes exactly that right there but then it still comes down to where to get the info and how hard to put into the wiki of choosing.

this is a great idea and i hope it actually goes somewhere other than a forgoten thread

Well - we have a whole bunch of servers going spare, so I'm sure we could offer some capacity for hosting (for free).

The offer also applies for the main GolfGTi forum - I'm sure I can do you a better deal than what you're paying now ;)
