The most highly recommended and best dv for the 1.8T engine is the Forge 007p. Its a must have on a remapped engine.
http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=0006&product=FMCL007P
The reason this is the best valve by far is because the Vag 1.8T engines dont like atmospheric valves - the loud ones that you get with subarus etc.
These type of valves will cause a loss of power throw up lights on the dash and fault codes in the ECU. The ecu needs the air to be put back into the system for it to run correctly.
That said the early AGU engine has been known to use noisey valves such as baileys etc and give no running probs etc
Though im sure the engine is still not performing as well as it could by using such valves.
The 007p will give you 100% reliability and hold the boost far better than the standard bosch plactic one. (which are to prone to crack)
The 007P is tried, tested and proved to be 100% reliable.
If you really want a loud psssttt noise you can get the forge spliter valve:
http://www.forgemotorsport.co.uk/content.asp?inc=product&cat=0006&product=FMDVSPLTR
The Splitter valve gives a combination of blow off and recirculation valve operation all at the same time.
It has been specifically designed for the many turbo engined applications that operate metered airflow management sysyems (Inc 1.8T VAG).
This means you get all the noise of the blow off valve whilst retaining the compatibility with the recirculation requirements of the engine management system.
Some people have still had problems using this valve (Car going into limp mode) see this thread:
http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=87882.0
When you order a new valve be sure to get some 4mm silicone hose for the top vacuum pipe - You will find yours has gone hard and brittle with years of being heated and cooled and it will snap!
Spring fitment:
Now you can fine tune your Blow Off/Diverter Valve to the exact needs of your engine with this complete tuning kit.
Your valve tuning kit you will find four springs and three spacers.
The strongest spring is the red, followed by the blue, yellow and finally the green which is the weakest. The spacers enable you to fine tune the settings between two spring tensions if required.
Forge normally supply the valves, unless requested differently, with a spring that will match the tension of the manufacturer’s original fitment valve. However, as many owners undertake tuning modifications some may wish to re-tune the valve characteristics to suit a given application.
If you are finding that the valve is dumping more than required or you are loosing boost pressure it is normally an indication that a stronger spring is required. Conversely if the valve is failing to dump it may be necessary to install a weaker spring. If during this tuning of your valve you are faced for example with the red spring being to strong and the blue spring to weak, you can add the spacers to the blue spring to increase the tension by small increments, thus achieving a setting between the red and blue springs.
Valve Spring color coding
Green - 5-15 PSI
Yellow - 15-23 PSI
Blue - 23-30 PSI
Red - 30 + PSI
The above figures are estimates only and should only be considered as a guideline
Please note - fitting a stronger spring into a valve will not increase boost pressure unless existing pressure is being lost. Failure to allow the valve to operate by installing a spring which is to strong may cause damage to the turbocharger.
Please note - the red coded springs should not be installed in the DVR or DV007 diaphragm valves.

how do you know what PSI your running??

Boost gauge. Or green for no map and yellow for a mapped car.

thanks mate

As per original thread thay can be fine but 007p is far better IMO
-
doh!! sorry, must learn to read the thread first.
anybody wana swap?!
-
does the 007 make any noise?
-
does the 007 make any noise?
Not unless you have a CAI like Richard did at Brands...
-
so what problems do people experience with the splitter then?
-
so what problems do people experience with the splitter then?
engine management light / loss of boost and performance
-
i got a splitter valve on my AUM which everyone says you shouldnt do but i havent had any problems! I havent experienced loss of boost as i took the trumpet off and put the blank plug in to change it to fully re-circulating an if anything it felt slower??!!! makes an awesome tssshhhhh with an induction kit too :P
-
fitted my 007P today
It cost me 5 minutes work
-
is there a bit more info on fitting a recirculating valve for the 1.8T.agu engine. as my engine looks diffrent to the one on this thread. the last owner tryd fiitting a non recirculating valve.

and (http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll86/type2splitty/enginebaySmall-1.jpg)

WTF is going on in your engine bay
Looks like he's just relocated the DV to the cold side. the two pipes that are plugged are where the original Recirc DV would go...
-
would this fit think its a early forge oo7p (http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll86/type2splitty/dv.jpg)(http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll86/type2splitty/dumpvalve.jpg) and how would u fit it and sort the mess out.???thanks
-
yeah that would fit. u know how it goes?
-
hi, no i avent a clue???? im looking for a bit of help thanks.
-
From what i can see. you'll need to put the bottom part of the Forge DV into the plugged hole on the turbo intake pipe, then you will need to source an original hose from where the blue plug is and plug it onto the side of the DV. then you'll need to put the blue vacuum hose onto the nipple at the top of the DV (where it already is) and then plug that hole where he's relocated it...
-
do you mean some thing like this
(http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll86/type2splitty/likethis.jpg)
i have seen most dv fitted on the front of the engine as on this thread. thanks
-
Yeah exactly like that.
you've seen them at the front because its been re-located to the cold side of the engine. But the kit looks more like this one...
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i201/bavanuity/03012010023.jpg
Thats a forge relocation kit.
-
thanks,. does it make a diffrence to where its fitted if so do u know what the diffrence is thanks.
do i need the cold air pipe im blanking off. or could i fit it somewhere and where will it go to. many thanks
-
people re-locate it to the front of the engine because its the cold side hense colder air, More dense and better performance.
And i dont know what you mean about fitting it somewhere else? the bit you need to plug is the pipe going from the Intercooler to the throttle body... is there another hose coming off the DV? one that i can't see in the pic?
-
no there's only 1 pipe on this dv. the 1 i got 2 go on as the 2 pipes.
pipe i was on about is the 1 that this dv is fitted to/ wheres is it as standard, and redirecting is a good thing if its done tidy then.thanks for your help
-
no probs mate. if you get stuck just look through my project thread and there will be a pic of my engine bay somewhere along the line showing how the DV should go. Just make sure you plug that hole where the Intercooler goes to the Throttle Body...
-
Maybe a daft question but do you declare it to your insurance and if so, does it make much difference to your premium?

Yes and no

Thanks Rich

Just thought I'd add to this, a couple of months ago the 007p was replaced by the 008. The differences are,
*The top does NOT turn to adjust it has 3 allen cap screws to remove the top.
*Then you change the spring as per the 007P.
*The flow is very similar to the 007p, but the vacuum chamber has been made smaller which causes the piston to react quicker than the 007p.
*Also the piston design is different and now has seals on the piston body to make an even beter seal
and as a bonus you get a free forge keyring and all the bits needed to take it apart and clean it etc, plus all the different springs and spacers
-
im ordering my 008 tomorow from forge, and i keep seeing that its best to buy some 4mm silicone hose, what length would i need,i'll be keeping the dv in the same place, not going to the 'cold side'.
i only ask,as ive just seen the photo's of 'big stevie's mrs' fitting his valve and thats some distance of hose he's got there!!

Hi. Ive been doing a bit of reading up on mods and obviously came across dump valves and diverter valves but am a little confused. To get to the point straight away, is there any performance gains of adding the forge007p or a splitter or whatever, or is modifying the car in this area just for show and making it sound cool?
