Title: AGG engines help/advice much appreciated!!!
Post by: slam on 08 March 2009, 11:51
hi have developed a very rattly noise from top of my agg engine(mk3 gti)- on closer inspection it turned out to be a plastic shield/baffle? just under the rocker cover- this appeared to just sit losely over the threads that protrude from the tops of the bearing rings, ive had the rocker cover off and removed it, solving the rattle nicely!- but can anyone advise as to if i can/should run the engine without this part? from what i can see it just prevents oil spraying up if you remove the filler cap whilst the engines running, any advice highly appreciated!

I'm guessing it will become less efficient at cooling/lubricating the components..Prob best not to but as long as you keep an eye on your oil levels.

replace it ASAP to be safe.

It's main reason is to stop oil being thrown into the breather, without it fitted you run the risk of oil going into the breathers.

I would refit it asap.
