Superchips/Bluefin anyone?
« on: 21 January 2011, 16:06 »

Seems like an easy solution DIY, but i don't like how they are universal and have tunes for like every car under the sky..

Companies like APR/REVO only work on certain cars and are very common in the US.

Also i have heard they don't make as much torque as the competitors.

What do you guys think? anyone have experience with them?

I've read much less about Bluefin in the mk6 section so am guessing it hasn't really caught on in here yet. However the mk5 boys and girls will be very familiar with it. As with all re-mappers, some will praise it and some will knock it.
The Bluefin can have high torque just like REVO and the likes if you ask Superchips to put a high torque map on it.
However I would think the Bluefin will have exactly the same issues as REVO, APR etc when it comes to the later ECUs.
flc1962 has Bluefin on his TDI.

I had it on my MK5 and ran it for 70000 miles without any issues.

The peak torque does tend to be lower than the Revo but it is a flat profile like the original just more, wheras the revo has more of a spike at the start.
Midrange grunt is superb and  acceleration in 6th is like 4th.
MPG wasn't really affected although if you push on it will be

Their technical support has always been excellent.

If you are going to order make sure you tell them if it is DSG or Manual as the maps are slightly different.

Highly recommended.

I have driven a dealer demo with the VWR map which is basically the superchip one and as said its smoother delivery than the revo one imo.

If you have the nice little K03 turbo then bluefin is just sublime.
If you have fitted the horrible big K04 then bluefin will snap in too much torque just when it is not needed, as the ED30 boys have found out.

All praise the K03 (and that Nissan Xbox game type car you like Nosher)

I'd still rather have an R, only because they sell them in that nice blue though........ :smug:

Tell your dealer to request a special order and to contact VW to order a GTI in that colour, (VW say its not a problem) best of both worlds.
