DSG gear stick surround
« on: 22 August 2012, 07:24 »
Hey everyone

The black plastic coating on my gear stick surround has stared to bubble and peel off so I am looking to replace it. I also need a set of replacement ESP, tyre set and the blank buttons, and the black plastic surround that they sit in (the one that goes around the metal ashtray) as all of these have stated to bubble and peel too.

Any ideas where the best place to get these items would be? I was hoping maybe there is a carbon fibre effect option for the gear stick surround, but not too fussed.

Any suggestions would be great, thanks!
Mrk V, GTI, 3dr, DSG, heated seats, winter pack, cruise control, rear parking sensors and now thanks to GizzyWizzy and SteveP in the MK6 section a RCD 510. Awesome!

Just spoke to VW and they say you can’t just replace the gear stick surround, you need to buy the whole damn thing and that’s £254. Has anyone got any idea if there is an aftermarket option of just the plastic surround? It would be a great help please.

How typical  So you cannot remove the top part of the surround from the rest of the assembly?

I dont know what sort of finish is used on the surround, I have a bit missing.

Another option would be to remove it and peel away the colour and refinish or wrap with carbon?

Just seen this on the bay:

Well I've just had a play about with it, and it is dead easy to remove just the plastic surround leaving the gaitor and gear stick and knob in place.

Good find mate but still a little pricey though, only need the plastic bit, still much better than the £254 VW want.

£30  Dubious? Your only after the plastic surround.

The only other option other than DIY wrap is speak to a local plastic fabricator?

Awesome find, wonder how long it will stay at that price?

The custom wrap sounds good. Any suggestions for people who do that?

Quick google:

Try the Ebay one first I reckon unless you want to customise the interior.
