Title: MK4 gti 1.8 T AGU 220bhp-250bhp???????????
Post by: daniel1989 on 29 December 2008, 19:13
i would realy like to see 220bhp to 250bhp on my golf but im not whanting to spend crazy money and do realy serious mods. so is it somthing that can be done? its siting at 163bhp just now with a full miltek exhaust system with sports cat, carboino intake system and bailey DV26 dump valve.

Didnt the MK4s at a recent rolling road get no where near 200bhp?

Vehicle: MK4 Golf 1.8T
Modifications: Undisclosed Remap + Milltek + PSG Intake + Forge 007P

That not what he has?

I dont understand 'bhp hunting' unless your spending a fortune as you want a target. When i modded the ctr i had i just wanted a more usable car with a nice power curve!

Yeah it what he has and if you fit a k03s turbo with a remap and the mods he already has you can see 220 bhp.

I see what you mean about bhp hunting i agree

Alright mate i have a forge 007 and a pipercross induction kit i went to see nick *Rtech* for a remap and im well chuffed (she flies) one thing i will say is you will need a new clutch i fitted the g60 fly and vr6 clutch it works a treat. iv now brought a fmic, 4 bar fpr and iv ordered the ecs n75 thingy. just need to find a cheap enough k03s and de cat pipe????????????????.

Does anyone have a spare black glove box ???????????

a ko3s on a stage one will produce up to 225bhp with correct mods and map, stage 2ers will get 240 odd and they are very quick round town they keep up with mine to my surprise.

220 odd bhp - But you'd need the R-Tech Stage 1.5.  You won't need the 4 BAR FPR, though.  ;)

Hey I have been wondering...

To get more power past stage 1 sometimes it is suggested to install larger injectors.

Is it not possible just to program them to stay open longer and burn more fuel to create extra power. Or is that essencially part of what a remap does?

With some choice parts and upgrades can you not just aggresivly map the car to increase power untill you are physically limted to how much power it can produce?

From what I have heard an AGU can make 250bhp pretty easy but as said it can start getting expensive.

no but if you look at Rich's torque curve it gives superb driveability

also they were a lot closer to their quoted figures than some MKV's  :lipsrsealed:

hopefully there will be another rolling road next year

From what I have heard an AGU can make 250bhp pretty easy but as said it can start getting expensive.

an AUM can make that far more easily than an AGU as its fitted with the KO3s turbo as standard

an AGU is good for approx 190bhp on standard turbo, remap and turbo back exhaust - which is pretty much what Rich's car is

roll on april hopefully bonus time!! then i can start to seriously look at adding a bit more power, but from everyoens faces after they were taken out by nick i know im goign to be happy lol

but on the clutch front as and when i get the map done this is something i obviously dont want to go wrong on vw speed they have :

where would i find the g60 /VR6 set up?

safe nice on rhys, so from what i have read would be cheaper to source the parts rather thatn the vwspeed package? well all sounds good to me cambelt and waterpump first though, but should have some tyres soon which would be a better start

yeah Rich is the man to talk to about the G60 setup but i think he sourced most of his from a company called Proven Products and one or two bits from the dealers
http://www.freeindex.co.uk/profile(proven-products)_77047.htm

you're going to hate me for saying this but i'd get the cambelt / water pump done first - keep your car in good health first then worry about how she looks

i agree with you whats the point of having a car lookign nice if it dont run properly, will be looking at that soon on that front not sure if it will be cheaper again to source parts and then get my mate to do the work?

ill speak to rich closer to the time re the clutch

From what I have heard an AGU can make 250bhp pretty easy but as said it can start getting expensive.

A chip/remap will change the injection pulse / flow rate, 80% duty cycle is safe on most stock injectors and rail pressure setups.  80% fuel duty at 6000rpm+ would mean each injector would open for around 10ms per crank rotation, so every 100ms = 10 crank rotations which = 10 injection pulses, A bloody lot of work going on there in a short space of time. So going over 80% duty would bring the pulse time down to around 8ms per rotation which is barely enough time for the injectors to close before the have to open again.   To keep the duty cycle low you can always add more rail pressure which will allow more fuel to be injected per pulse, keeping at the 80% duty.  The down side of higher rail pressure on stock injectors can be poor fuel spray which will cancause the potential fuel efficiency to be very low.  (This is based on the C20LET Vauxhall engines we have spent 10 years tuning, on OEM they used Motronic ECUs which is linked to the birth line of the Bosch ME7.5 ECU found in the DBW 1.8T engines, so fuel mapping is on similar lines to what I have wrote above))

The best way around this is greater flow injectors with matched rail pressure which will optimise the fuel quantity per pulses at 80% of the work rate which will keep the desired spray pattern to an optimum for greater efficiency.  Plus keeping the injection duty cycle low will allow the closed loop side of the ECU to work to its full potential, such as if the lambda reading starts to tell the ECU that the engines is running leaner than requested, the closed loop function of the ecu would automatically add more fuel to get the desired lambda reading which the ECU is requesting to allow safe running,  If the injectors are already on there limit the lambda reading cannot be brought back to a safe level, the engine will continue to run lean which can result in engine melt down.. bad times.  It’s always good to have a window for safety.  I melted my first Calibra turbo engine on a rolling road when the injection duty was mapped to 100%, now I would only ever use injectors at 80% max, I am well over 305bhp at 22psi and touch wood I have not had any fuelling issues due to the safe window I now have.

I good way for the AUM to gain power is to upgrade the injectors with a set from a 225 TT, and match the fuel pressure to the stock TT rail pressure.  This injector and rail pressure combination is known to work really well up to 270bhp+ on stock BAM engines.

IMO go for a tried and tested combination straight from a higher BHP application.

Nick

Thats from Bens AUM all he has is the 007p and spec1 remap, The results might be a bit optermistic, but even at a correction 210bhp and 240lbft its enought to make you smile.

Stinky:

Done some research on the flywheel/clutch thing...........................  Apparently, the G60 fly is the same as found in the Mk3 GTi 16v (ABF), so you can buy one from a scrappy for a tenner, then use it to exchange for a new one at VW (£80).  Then just buy the VR6 Sachs clutch for ~£100 - Job done!  :afro:

I brought the fly from the dealers and gave him my olf dual mass thing, And my clutch from sutton autofactors in nottingham and that works a treat and it all came to £180.
