1.8t remap, safe?
« on: 09 August 2012, 14:16 »
Hi all, I recently bought a 1.8t agu and it currently has 140,000 on the clock. Seems like a good strong engine still (touch wood) so I was just wondering whether it's safe to have remapped as its high mileage.
Any help appreciated, thanks.

Had mine done around the late 120,000 mark, it did highlight some issues after being remapped (clutch went in a week  )
ARZ K03s, Oettinger Side Skirts, R32 front, Carbon stage 2, Forge 007p (yellow spring), Forge Actuator (yellow spring), Pipercross panel filter with DSG parts, N249 and N112 deleted, SAI deleted, Carbon canister deleted, Rear wiper deleted, Long Life turbo back custom exhaust with 200 cell sports cat, VR6/G60 clutch kit, Creation Motorsport TIP, Catch can, 'Wellycooler', K04 charge pipe, S3 ported inlet manifold - looks pretty standard on the outside though :)

Bah! That's sodd all mate!

i bought mine on 120k, mapped at 130k until 150k, then ko3S st2 until 210k, and now it's at 215k running a ko4 hybrid at 300bhp :)

You'll be fine!

Oh right, previous owner told me the clutch had been replaced 2000 miles ago lol.
Will they still remap a car with that mileage tho?

Why not, if all is ok the remap should not harm it, however some parts that may getting on a bit may not last so long.

Nothing wrong with a 1.8T with 100k+ on it.  After all, they pre 2000 so easily over 12 year old now.  Well kept after they will last ages.

If renew all sensors with genuine replacements if wanting something reliable.

Thanks for all your help, think i will definately bite the bullet and get it remapped. After i'v upgraded all the bits that is lol.
So far i got k03s, fmic, samco coolant hoses, forge dv and few other bits and bobs, looking round for a decent exhaust system now.  :smug:
