Post by: Gingernick on 09 November 2013, 17:47
well I went to silverlink to get some trousers and a shirt for an imminent holiday, but it was packed to so popped into Benfield there instead and seem to have ordered a 3 dr tornado red gti with performance pack and dynaudio

still grinning after the test drive..my missus says it looks look I have been hit over the head and my face has stuck

There's nowt like a good satisfying shopping trip! Did they give you a guesstimate on when it would be delivered?

sadly no..he checked the latest bulletins which are advising 25 weeks..but hey ho..good things come to those who wait

car blew me away to be honest

I was also considering a new octavia vrs ( I have had 3!) I wasn't even intending on having a test drive, just getting some ball park figures to compare the 2
Once he got me in the car though...no question I was not going to buy one. Spur of the moment etc..but I know I will not regret it every time I get behind the wheel..it feels the sort of car I will just want to get out of bed on a sunday morning and go for a drive just for the sake of driving...screw the cost of fuel!

I wasn't actually looking to replace my Polo but after some thinking I took the plunge.

Gingernick: Did you get much in the way of discount? Silverlink is my closest dealership but they never seem to offer me much discount and p/x is always at least £500 less than I get off Pulman. I usually get my warranty work done at Silverlink though.

I basically got the performance pack for free was a little over a grand 'dealer contribution'

I am trading in a mito cloverleaf..which is why I choose benfield as they have an alfa dealer as part of their network..but wasn't expecting anything special as they seem to fluctuate wildly  looking at different sources

I suspected other dealers..such as pulman might not have been as keen to give me a sensible offer on the alfa

bottom line for me was its not costing me anything more to change..even the tax is the same and insurance is actually cheaper?!

I intend to use them as my service centre as well as even though they are on the other side of the river..its only a 15 minute drive..very convenient compared to having to drive through to newcastle

dealership seems busy as well ...the lad on the desk behind me was also after a gti..but I was having the test drive that meant he had to wait..he was trading in a m5 gti I think...sorry you had to wait for me if you are a member here!!

I also appreciated the directness of the sales staff I dealt with..a scotsman...he didn't feel the need to fill me with bullsh!t about the car.

oh..and I am still looking for a shirt and trousers suitable for a meal in a posh Restaurant in Rome in a fortnight!!

Nice, your one of the lucky ones. VW at present are quoting upto 25 weeks lead time.
I would say you should have your car for March 1st 14 plate. :)
