Mk7 gti coming soon
« on: 02 January 2021, 01:45 »
Hi everyone. Hopefully picking up my gti mk7 very soon. 13 plate, white 3 door.

Has the dynaudio sound system which is unbelievable! Only thing it hasn't got is sat nav which I'd be interested to know if I can upgrade to to a nav stereo, how easy it is and if it will affect the dynaudio set up?

It's my first golf and I'm looking forward to gaining more knowledge of them!

Hi welcome to the forum.

We have a Mk7 section where you can ask Mk7 specific questions. This bit of the forum can be a bit tumbleweedy.

From memory early Mk7's could be upgraded to have nav with a Kenwood aftermarket add-on unit that plugs into the existing media unit. Obviously this isn't the latest tech and I'm not sure if the maps are still updated.

If that's not a viable option and you want the latest maps and the like, then it may be worth upgrading your MIB1 unit to a MIB2 Discover Nav. It's not a particularly cheap upgrade but it will give you a bigger screen with higher resolution and faster processor. Most MIB2 units also allow App Connect which will allow you to pair your phone with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Upgrading to a MIB2 isn't a job for a novice, there is coding required to make it work, but there are specialists out there that can do this for a price.

Hope that helps.
