« on: 09 May 2003, 01:20 »
Hi

Idling on my car when cold drops to about 500rmp when changing gear, and all of a sudden i'm having problems starting it. It turns over fine then it catches, and the rev go up slowly, if you put your foot hard down on the gas the rev will shoot up after a second, after a few minutes of driving, it's fine. (it almost feels like something is clogged!!)

Things i have done.

changed spark plugs
changed fuel filter
changed ht leads
changed stabilisation valve
changed FEI control unit
cleaned throttle valve housing

Please help begining to drive me nuts and burn a big whole in my pocket.

Find the Idle Speed Control Unit (or whatever its called).

Its an electrical device found in the cabin (centre console).

Use Haynes to find it.

To test, make sure the car is cold, unplug it and see if the car behaves any differently.

If the car carries on messing around - its busted.

I am beginning to think this is a more common problem than first appears.

Also, not starting is the first sign of the distributor going.

Been there, done that, paid for it....
