Nope sounds like it is overpressuring, could be a head gasket issue.

Are you getting any coolant on the expansion tank after a long drive?
as in is the cap relieving pressure.

Yeah a bit actually. Am I looking at head gasket trouble or are there other possibilities?

What is the running temp of the car?

not sure exactly but its normally below half way and does not overheat at all

the temp gauge should sit bang in the middle at 90*c for starters once warmed up.

I would get the coolant system checked for exhaust gasses.
Any garage should be able to do it cheap, and it will tell you for sure if the head is leaking.

I am having a similar problem  :sad: head gasket has been replaced, car runs at around 90 which is normal but all oil is being pushed back up into the water system and blown out the water header tank n e ideas????? love my golf dont want to send her to the grave if i can help it
