Abingdon Trackday yesterday
« on: 29 August 2009, 15:31 »
We took the Golf to Abingdon yesterday, despite the crap weather forecast we only had one wet rainy session.

The car went well all day with no problems. The track had a coiuple of 100 mph straights followed by tight corners to give the brakes a good workout, 3 slalom style chicanes which are fun to see just how fast you can go through them without obliterating the cones.

I fitted some Eibach uprated anti roll bars last weekend which have made the car a lot more stable round the corners, you actually feel connected to the back end now. Also had a more agressive front alignment done, 1.5 degrees of neg camber and 2 minutes of toe out on each front wheel. The car now really wants to turn in and seems to have eliminated most of the understeer.

The back end now feels tight and you can feel a slight amount of oversteer in tight corners but it never goes any further however hard you try to make it oversteer further.

The ARB's have also taken out a lot of the bumpiness of the TA Technix coilovers which wasn't noticeable on the track but a real pain on normal road driving.

The ARB's and alignment have been the best mods made to the car so far.

Cheers

Paul
