WTF is Diagnostics port on the mk4?

I have a 1.8t 1999 AGU, seems stupid but i cant find were to plug the diagnostics cable into on the car.

Please shed some light for sorry ass  :tongue:

Above the ash tray. You have to pull of some of the trim.

at the bottom of centre console below heater/climate control there is a trim panel that can be removed, diagnostics port is behind that trim.

got that sorted, next problem

Cant do a successful test, all ports say inacessable apart from port 3 that says status 5 - modem....... any ideas what to do?

what scanner are you using? full version of vagcom? cheep ebay jobbie?

probably need to assign it on the computer side. if you have added drivers to vag com for the lead, try remembering what usb port you had the lead plugged into when you set it up.. if that doesnt work you need to assing the port in device manager..

I can see the port in the device manager, it has a yellow ! in it which i guess means broken. How do i fix it from there?

tried updating but no joy

What cable you using?

Need any help ill be able to do it with genuine vagcom if needed!

thanks Chris, ive made a few changes to car since buying it a month ago and its still ticking over a bit weird

also the airbag lights on was going to check that.

But tbh i really wanted this one to work for the future if it was a one off i would just drive up to you.

Use the drivers on the disc to install the lead.  Obvilously the CD will probably have a copy of Vagcom on too.

You can also put drivers on throught hardware manager (find cable with yellow !) right click -> Update drivers -> Search for suitable driver on your CD -> install.
