Title: Project 4motion TFSI
Post by: R44MS_K on 30 November 2012, 08:57

So one day, I decided that I wanted a fast / track car, I already own a fast diesel but lets be honest, a petrol car will always beat a similar powered diesel (without compromising reliability!)

My good friend  owns a 480bhp Ford Escort Cosworth RS and to be honest, no diesel will be as FAST as a petrol beast
(http://imageshack.us/a/img89/654/24205210152126390950061.jpg)

So I decided not to modify my diesel any more and part with my stage 3 hybrid turbo, the Kerma race 783 nozzles, ported head  and picked up this CLEAN V6 4motion - exactly what I was after - 3 door, unmolested and a base for building a quick track car. she had 69k on the clock, 1 owner from new and had a sunroof (does add a bit of weight but i do like creature comforts!) It was a bargain price of £1600!

So the project started

We uprated the suspension - Koni adjustable shocks with Eibach springs - a match made in heaven (in terms of handling!)

Eibach anti roll bars

S3 Strut brace

R32 subframe with hubs and quickrack
(http://imageshack.us/a/img132/980/234polybushedsuperpror3.jpg)

We fitted a full Superpro polybush kit
(http://imageshack.us/a/img248/6233/227j.jpg)

Polybush top mounts
(http://imageshack.us/a/img32/8006/270polybushtopmounts.jpg)

We fitted a full Milltek R32 cat back system (non res) and the cats had to go!

Exterior mods

We went for a full OEM R32 kit - although its a track toy, the R32 kit just looks the part
(http://imageshack.us/a/img850/1567/279moveb!tchgetoutthewa.jpg)

R32 Xenons
(http://imageshack.us/a/img109/241/221slightlydamagedxenon.jpg)

I had an Audi TT fuel cap in the shed from 2006 - it was time to make use of it!

We picked up an R32 tailgate so went for the MK5 hatch conversion

R32 mirrors
(http://imageshack.us/a/img525/4070/202r32mirrorsandoemsmok.jpg)

We decided to go for some Corbeau revenge seats in the famous orange and black combo (thanks to M7N UP / Dan)

GTi inters
(http://imageshack.us/a/img109/3139/57995510151212451933976.jpg)

We did the AmD Track evening at brands hatch

adding ducting made a massive difference - even with 312mm discs - i would reccomend ducting to anyone! cheap and cheerful modification!

adding the R32 grilles with open vents helped!

We modified some Passat FIS clocks and added 180MPH R32 foils along with R20 Needles - we changed the LEDs so they are now backlit white and needles are blue

We picked up some R32 Pedals with dead pedal for a bargain price:

The wood trim had to go! we did a DIY carbon fibre effect retrim!

I have been after a set of Sportec Mono wheels for years now!! I couldn not believe my eyes when I saw a set advertised for £250 buy it now! I went to Wales the same day they were advertised and picked them up!! they had minor kerbing but we wanted to finish them in Orange.

We then made use of our Brembo 6 Pot brake calipers (the ones from the q7/cayanne/touareg)

the kit comprises of the calipers themselves, Ferodo DS2500 pads, HEL braided lines, Castrol SRF fluid (amazing stuff) and it uses the R32 discs which are actually 2 piece and a massive 334mm!

This brake setup is unreal. There is no pedal travel unlike other Porsche setups.

here are some recent pictures of the car

The most recent update is this

The project continues!!

We have a track day booked at Brands Hatch next month. We have done Bedford aerodrome for a full track day - the car took some serious abuse!

I have probably missed loads of bits for the build thread but I think I have covered most bits!

Good work.
So if that's a new engine for more power, had you done anything to the standard V6 engine?

@Dubfan

the 2.0TFSI engine is the one found in the MK5 gti etc, should be good for 360bhp - the v6 it has at the moment does sound awesome but its just lacking the power we need!! it has a decat, milltek r32 exhaust

@sharki786, tfsi 2 litre.. wanted an RS3 / TTRS engine but they are just too hard to find!! picked that engine up for next to nothing - includes loom, ecu, clocks !

@wayne thanks! we are excited too

@scarr89, its been just over a year which isnt too bad considering me and my friend both have daily cars, jobs, commitments, mortgages etc..

@diamond hell yep.. a proper cage is around 2k... one step at a time im afraid, cages are for monkeys anyway, we arent looking to roll it just yet and its not a requirment to go on a track, however when we enter vag trophy we will have plastic windows etc.. We have harnesses all ready to go.

@tweed, glad you can see its early days!!

we have a track day booked on the 16th of dec at brands hatch, any one is welcome to watch or its £99 for the whole day!!

Cages are for monkeys?  I think you'll find quite the opposite is true.

You can't safely do harnesses and buckets without a cage. If you have harnesses in it at the moment I can only assume they're on the rear seatbelt mounts, which means if you bin it you'll trash the seats and compress your spine as the harnesses will pull down hard because they're mounted so low.

Maybe a look through the MSA Blue Book would be useful before you do too much more?  It's available online.

I guess you've carefully read the VAG trophy regulations already, as well?

good to see the chassis getting sorted before the power.

another aspect of the cage that is often overlooked is just how much stiffer they make the shell.  I have never driven a caged mk4 but when we did my mk2 and mz5 i was amazed at the difference

@diamind, chill out

no harness, the pic was taken from the car the seats were from
dont really need to read books, no offence

and yes, we have, a very good friend of ours is already on there with their r32

@lewis, a cage is certainly on the cards but it has to be one work actually serves a purpose and not for show!

Oh god...

Maybe he builds race cars for a living?

Or maybe he's a sea-dwelling creature, in a beer container?
