MARK 1 cabby engine

hi im on the verge of buying a mk1 clipper,but the cam belt snapped and i think the engine may be stuffed as i cant turn the head with the cam belt off or shouldnt i be able to anyway,or is that a sign of seizing? im considering just buying a second hand engine,but want one that would just go staight in without any additional agro,so any suggedtions,advice greatly recieved ,thanks very much

the engine will put up a fair bit of resistance unless you take the plugs out, since you'll be fighting against engine compression.  Make sure the timing marks are lined up before you try to turn it over as well!

Spud, i've just bought a gti with a 1.8 recon engine in that i'am breaking so if your local and your after 1 then PM me :smiley:
