Dash Clock Swap?
« on: 12 March 2003, 19:45 »
Hi
I've got a Mk2 '91 GTI, in which the rev counter, MFA and water light have packed up, which is apparently common with Motometer clocks. I've tried to source a replacement but as they are single plug clocks I've had no luck or they cost the earth.
I was wondering if any other clocks would fit from the VAG range, perferably with the MFA, but if not I can live with out it, as I have coped for the last couple of months without it.
Any ideas would be great.
Top site aswell!!
Cheers

Why don't you use a set of two socket clocks and just wire it yourself to the existing loom? the colour codes are the same, or at least they are if your Single socket clocks have a speedo cable.  If not you will have to sadly get a new set of clocks.

It may be possible to mount a set of Mk3 clocks ( with electronic speedo). this will plug straight in but you will obviously have to alter the shape of the trim to match.

 Hopes thats some help.

Are you the guy who posted this question on ClubGTI?

If so you have been after this for quite a while ;)

Cheers for the reply.
I haven't posted on ClubGTI but yes I have been looking for a while.
May try modifying the twin plug into one, I was clutching at straws really thinking that maybe a seat dash clock set may fit, never mind time to get the wire cutter and soldering iron out!
cheers

Forgot about the Seat, but your right, maybe one of an Old shape Toledo might be the same as they were basically a Mk2 Jetta, but having not had much to do with Old Seat's i am not too sure! Worth a look though if you can find one!!

I've thought about a mk3 dash, but don't know how to sort out the electronic speedo and the electronic odometer and trip computer and which Mk3 clocks are the best to use or does it make a difference?
Cheers
