Fog's
« on: 05 March 2003, 13:33 »
Hello dubbers  ;)
Here we go, now, dose anyone know IF  :-/  a 1991 "J" reg 1800 Golf Driver should have a fog light on both side's? as mine only has a fog light on the off side (driver side)  ;)
The light unit on the near side has a blanking plate over where the bulb should go through to the lense!   ???
Also  :D if you take the bulb out of the O/S and put it in the N/S  buld holder it dont light up.   :'(
Is this normal for the age and Mk of car?
If you got this far,
well done  ;D

Thanks.

I've seen this debate before on the Audi forums. The consensus of opinion is that you should only have the one rear fog light. This is so as not to be mistaken for brake lights.

mk2 rear fog lights have always been like that. depending on whether the vehicle is left or right hand drive determines which side fog light you get.

if you buy taillights that have been imported from a lhd country (generally the weird colour ones) you will find the fog light hole not drilled through on the side you need  :(

of course, if you really want one each side you could wire it up easily enough  :)

Me thinks judderman is talking about the rear fogs and you are meaning the fronts (which obviously are a pair!)

:)

Oh right.  Golfs only have one rear fog I put an extra one in mine you cut out the plastic put the bulb in and feed a wire from your other fog to that bulb and bobs your uncle.

All mk2 golfs have only the one rear fog light because if it had two rear fogs and you apply the breaks your rear brake lights will  not be as noticable to the driver behind. It's probably a safety thing.

Its normal as mentioned above to just have the one foglight on the offside and I have also put the bulb and wiring in to make the nearside one come on. Just to clarify as well that english cars if only fitted with one fog light should have it on the offside regardless of whether it is left or right hand drive.
