Tootle
« on: 11 February 2019, 18:36 »
Hi guys,

Anyone had any experience of Tootle? Got my S3 on there at the moment and dealers are coming back with a value £1500 higher than Vw. Just wondered if anyone had sold their car with them. Don’t want some tyre kicker coming along!

Thanks in advance.

I sold an RS4 on there in Nov’ 2016.

Dealers were offering p/x values of £36-38k when they were selling for circa £43-45k, so I thought I’d give tootle a try. Straight away I got an offer of £39k, a few more dealers came in and over the next few days the bidding went to £40.5k. I was all set to accept when a reputable specialist dealer offered £41k.

I accepted, they came and collected the next day and settled all the outstanding finance.

I had some shady looking ‘buying groups’ bidding but the beauty is you choose which bids to accept. If you don’t get a bid you’re happy with you can simply let the ad expire. Be careful though because if you then choose to readvertise you might not get the same bidders/bids again.

Thanks for the reply. Think it’s these shady groups that I’m concerned about. The trader with the highest offer sells Porsche’s etc so hoping that’s ok. I check all the websites out to see if the look legit. I am being naive?

You don’t have to accept the highest bid, you can accept any of the bids you feel most comfortable with.

I also checked on companies house to see what the bidder’s cash position was, so I had a fighting chance in knowing they could clear the finance outstanding on my car. Sure, company reports can be up to a year out of date, but it’s also a good starting point to see how they trade each year.

Back in 2011 I sold a 2yr old fJCW mini to a Porsche specialist (purely Porsche) and they were great. They saw my ad on Pistonheads and rang directly offering me the full amount. They said they’d had one come in as a p/x and it flew out of the door so they were taking a punt on another. So yes your Porsche specialist might be genuine.

Google warned me about one group, so that I lowered my expectations when selling the wife's A1.
They came in with the highest bid, but came with a warning that actual money in the hand would be about £800 lower on average than was bid.

Sold it to my local Audi garage (sold to Lookers centrally, but inspection by.local garage). The guy at Lookers Silverlink was a complete twit  delaying money transfer for no good reason, so I made sure I relieved the car of anything that wasn't bolted down - the red triangle pack, the tyre air compressor, got all the mats out and gave them to a lass at work, the chromed 12v plug cover. I did leave the jack and locking wheel nut.

Whey ya bugger! It's finally arrived after an 8 month wait....

Good advice as usual here. I’ve looked up google reviews and companies house. All seems positive with the people I’ll probably accept an offer from. One feltphoned me as soon as it went on. Wanted the car blah blah blah, no replies since. Why do people do that?

I sold an S4 via tootle, process was very smooth. Got a good price from an Audi specialist (who I chose over a marginally higher offer from a car sourcing company), way above trade-in prices offered by VW and Audi, who were fine to deal with and paid me the exact money we agreed.

I'd definitely use it again

I sold my wife's 320D M Sport Conv through Tootle, I would say good about them but the dealer I dealt with got the number of owners wrong, sent me a deposit, then wanted to lower the value when he realised it was more than one owner, I accepted as was desperate to sell the car as it had some bird dropping damage and didn't want to get it sprayed.

I know a lot fo the highly rated independents used to use Tootle rather than Auctions because they knew enthusiasts tended to use it and the cars would come with good provenance.

Tootle have however in the past 24mths hiked their fees up, so some dealers are coming off it.

I’ve now accepted an offer and the dealer is coming this week to pick my S3 up. I’ll be driving a old 1.9 tdi Passat for a few weeks until the car comes.

Hoping the inspection of the car is ok now.
