Back on topic, car went in to dealer as the coolant was completely wrong colour, so dealer changed the bottle, flushed and refilled.

I have assembled photos of the new coolant bottle as fitted in December, and have noticed a dramatic loss in coolant over 858 miles.

What does everyone think? This can't be normal?  Maybe water pump on way out?

I’d be inclined to top it up and then monitor it again and if a further drop then get them to investigate the water pump/thermostat housing both of which are noted problems resulting in coolant loss.

You are probably aware of the issue of an airlock in the system in cars leaving the factory, which, several thousand miles later, results in the air leaching out and appearing as a drop in coolant level.  But yours is beyond that in mileage, but I wonder if changing the bottle and flushing the system might have produced similar effect?

Thanks Booth.

I sent the image to an old mate who is an ex main dealer technician, who says that clearly demonstrates a steady loss, and it is unlikely not settling down or an air lock, but perhaps something more serious and says I should have it booked it.

Yes it will have done as they have changed the coolant completely and may have introduced a  new air lock. Top it up and monitor it again.

Yeah, that was my thinking.  If I was the OP, I’d be topping it up and monitoring it daily/weekly for a while.

I wouldn't really call this dramatic if cooling system was just bled / refilled. Top up and monitor, should not drop again much (taking heat expansion into account).

Well I finally spoke to dealer and they asked me to top up and monitor, so I’ll give 2 weeks and see what happens.

So, I had to wait 3 weeks, because I wanted a courtesy car, but supplying dealer had my car back and found the leak, it was a seal on the thermostat housing, they replaced the seal and fingers crossed that is the end if it.

UPDATE on a update.  Despite the dealer saying it was fixed with new seals on water pump and thermostat housing, the car has lost another load of coolant over the last 440 miles since I collected it.

It's going to go back in, I'm really annoyed they didn't fix it!

I saw on another thread about cracked thermostat housing, is that common?
