Don't sweat it. Steelies are fine for the road - you'll never notice the difference and I think they can look good. If you're after a track car, then lighter weight wheels are a must.

alloys are no doubt better weight wise.. and you're definitely not going to get a load of dumbo-s at work screaming "where are your hubcaps mate?!?! where are they?!!? did someone nick 'em?!?! "

To be honest some steel wheels look the business, and from a weight point of view I'm sure there's plenty of aftermarket alloys which are just as, if not more heavy than standard steelies.

Looking at various magazines at the mo it seems that a more "Retro" look is coming back into fashion, i.e. wide or deep dish steel rims with low profile stretched rubber. Some look awesome! 

The end of Chavvy alloys maybe??

TBH buy whatever you like the look of. Steels can look good under certain circumstances (I loved the white 14's on my passat) but other times they just look cheap.
