haha, im studying law too, so this is quite interesting :)

if im not mistaken, the buyer cant do anything about it as you listed all the faults you knew about and stated that it was a project, implying that it was requiring more work to be undertaken on it.
Also falls under contract law to an extent aswell, seeing as when he claimed the winning bid he entered into a contract with you to buy the car. So he doesnt really have much of a leg to stand on! If he was unsure about it, he really should have checked the car out before hand, so its his problem now...tell him politely to jog on.

i had a similar issue selling the wife's 3.5 cabrio on ebay. seller paid paypal and sent a transporter to collect it.

2 days later he claims that the MOT inspector has condemned the car (i thought they could only pass or fail?) and demanded so me money back.

i told him either full refund upon the return of the car or nothing.

another 2 days passes and he tells me not to worry but to be careful with future ebay listings.

i know the car was rough around the edges but it definately was not rotton and i know that for a fact.

i seriously believe he was just trying to get some money back

If you buy off ebay and cannot view its your own risk,i bought my golf cab, golf gti turbo and my Boxster without viewing them and just sent a transporter to fetch them, you just need to have big balls and trust your judgement, but you will come unstuck at some point by not viewing, probably just been lucky so far....

  • Bora TDi 130 Highline - usually filthy.
It sounds like to me the guy has realised he's made a monumental f**k up and realised it needed more than just a quick service and polish before going on his lot. He obviously took a gamble, it didn't pay off and he's looking for someone else to blame. Therefore in his own stupid dumbass view it's your fault, not his.

I would suggest he asks the bloke he got to inspect it for him to deal with his financial affairs. Oh, that's right, he doesn't exist. What a doughnut!

Keeping schtum. Mostly.

I bought my golf off ebay, it was in london, and hour away and I only saw it a few days before it auctioned off.
I turned up too get it, but it was wasnt as described tbh, but I just bought it anyway as I couldnt wait and wasnt patient! , I should of walked off and could just say to ebay item wasnt as described so.

But he didnt even check it so its his own fault lol

I had similar when I sold a Pug 106, it was as described but when the buyer turned up they tried to pick fault and knock the price down. I told 'em they should have come and had a look before they bid and they didn't have a leg to stand on. Turns out they were a trader trying to make a bit more cash so the moral of the story is: Always stand your ground
My Golf is dead but at least I have this....

if an ebay winner comes to collect then starts to haggle i always tell them the price is firm but if they dont want it they can walk away.

unless there is genuinely something seriously amiss
