The car came with a shining airbag-light when I bought it. Seller had no info on this. She did have the generator changed, as that was worn out recently, but I don't know if that is related. The car is manufactured nov. 1994. The ABS-light goes on and off normally at startup, but the airbag-light comes back on and stays on constantly.
I have so far looked for loose cabling beneath the front seats. I can't find any cables going into the seats. Are there any cables going into the seat of a golf 3 '95? Also, I disassembled the horizontal and vertical panels around the seatbelt pretensioner on the left side to check for faulty cabling; I even dismounted the explosive tube to look under it: There was no cable entering the the tube or the rest of the assembly. The only cable in the vincinity was from the door-sensor button, passing the pretensioner vertically by.
