Right, first of all cheers JV

As you can see by the title I've gone from a 1.8T to a GT TDI! I was searching high and low for the 130PD model but ended up settling for the 115PD model as the price and spec was irresistible!

The spec is as follows:
2001 GT TDI highline
115PD
65,000 miles on the clock
1 owner from new (old couple)
Full VW service history (with every stamp)
Cambelt changed on last service
11 Months MOT
6 Speed gearbox
Cruise control
Climate control
Traction control
Full cream leather RECARO seats (heated fronts)
Sunroof

AND...   The original dealers receipt from when the car was purchased back in 2001!!

Price: £3000 (which I thought was good!)

Mmmmmm, look at those sexy TDI rims! NOT!!!
First things first, get them off and replace with some 18" Mk5 GTI reps!
Now I know, sitting on standard suspension, it has the clearance of a monster truck  but this will be addressed at a later date
Next up was to smooth the airbox and fit with a pipercross panel filter

Update time

Although this car is nowhere near as quick as my 1.8T, seeing 550 miles on a tank (without seeing the petrol light on) gives me great satisfaction! However, it's got A LOT of cream inside, and its making me feel like I want to vomit on myself  Something needs to be done about this, so...

Bye bye cream carpet...
...Hello black carpet!!
I couldn't stop there, so I did all the door sills as well...
And if that wasn't enough, I also did the doorcard inserts!!
As you can see from the third pic, i've also got my TT pedals in  If anyone wants to know how I did the doorcards, go to the maintenance section, where I've done a 'how to'

More to come soon guys...

Tine for an update...

Got a few more bits done, such as forum stickers, mk5 style wing mirrors, and rear calipers painted.
Absolutely essential!
I like the contrast between the black and the red, also, I will be getting the roof done in black to match!
Nice and ugly rear calipers + silver hammerite =
(http://i1008.photobucket.com/albums/af201/sveed5/7747df74.jpg)
Nice and tidy, but not in yah face  For those that are wondering why I have not done the fronts, it's because I'm waiting for my bigger hubs so that I can fit these
...My TT 312mm brakes!

Til next time...

It's been a lil while, so I thought I'd update my project...

Money has been a little bit tight at the moment, so I haven't made huge changes, just nice subtle ones

As said earlier on in this thread, I don't like all of the dirty cream trim  So I have slowly but surely been replacing it.

From this...
...To this!
And I have also done the parcel shelf and the supports
Looks much nicer IMO

Also, I got sick and tired of looking at my crappy vents n have always wanted some flush ones, so..
By far, one of the best interior upgrades on the mk4! And yes they are wired in! :smug:

I managed to pick up a set of R32 aero wipers off eBay for £45, so fitted them on straight away, work a dream, and I haven't even had to buy new blades!
Well, there's a little bit for you guys to chomp on  As stated, subtle changes, but just giving a crisper look!

Due to work comittments, I haven't really been able to get round to sorting stuff out on the tractor until now :undecided:

I got hold of an S3 upper strut brace, sprayed it metallic black, n got about bolting it on! I had to make some slight modifications to my engine cover, but the end result, is that I can hide that rather unimpressive looking engine!
For ages now, I've wanted to get a black front grill, so I got off my arse and painted mine! Very chuffed with the end result, as it goes well with my lower bumper grills (which I also sprayed)
After seeing a couple people on here having done theirs, I couldn't resist
Lastly, I think I've mastered this 'driving like a grandma n save your money for mods' sh!t going down!

Got round to getting my 312mm TT front brakes fitted
This was a bladdy nightmare, as I found out that my hubs were too small. That meant I had to buy some second hand hubs off a 1.8T. I've bought new bearings to press in, as the bearings in the hubs are cream crackered  Having said that, upgrading from 280mm brakes to 312mm brakes is awesome
Title: Re: sveed1.8T - '01 GT TDI
Post by: sveed1.8T on 30 November 2011, 11:16
Now that the brakes have to started to bed in, I am seriously feeling the improvements of this set up!!
I have also got myself a brand new set of Eibach 30mm lowering springs for a massive £66 posted!

Just need to source some Bilstein B4 shocks n new top mounts when funds allow.

VW service done, so another stamp to add to my FVWSH! Didn't get the most expensive service done, as I don't casually have £300 spare just before Christmas, so I've ordered a new pollen filter and fuel filter off of Euro Car Parts to complete the servicing!
Title: Re: sveed1.8T - '01 GT TDI
Post by: sveed1.8T on 24 December 2011, 17:28
Fitted both the pollen filter n the fuel filter this afternoon

Look at the difference between the pollen filters!!

If anyone wants to know how to change their pollen filter, check the maintenance section, as I did a write up for everyone! :afro:

Got round to cleaning up my grubby cream dash, and fitting my brushed ali trim!
Still want to get a black gear surround, and get a double din stereo/DVD/sat-nab unit, when funds allow.

Got the MOT at the end of next month, and I know that the axle bushes and wishbone bushes need replacing. During the service, I was told that one I my struts is leaking, my rear spring has a crack an the top mounts need replacing! The best bit is, it was the perfect excuse to completely redo the suspension! Just need to purchase some bilstein b4 shocks and get everything fitted!

Watch this space, as a lot will be done in the next month!
Title: Re: sveed1.8T - '01 GT TDI

Got my Bilstein B4 shocks delivered today
I've purchased some top mounts as well, so I just need to get it all fitted before my MOT!
Title: Re: sveed1.8T - '01 GT TDI
Post by: sveed1.8T on 01 February 2012, 21:15
Car passed the MOT no problems, so that's another 12months sorted for me! To prepare it for the MOT, I knew I had to redo the suspension, so I bought:

-Top mounts
-Bilstein Shocks
-Eibach 30mm Springs
-Wishbones
-Ball Joints
-Skoda VRS Rear Axle Bushes

Still not overly convinced with the drop on the 30mm springs, but the handling is incredible now! Not sure if I'll invest in some 40mm springs in the future, or just get on with it, but overall, the comfort and handling of my suspension is really good

Will hopefully get some pics up this weekend

Now, it's by no way 'slammed' but it is no where near the monster truck level it was originally! In the second pic, you can see the height of my GTI on standards springs, n it looks high IMO!

Obviously I would love the tyres to be licking my wheel arches, but I am really happy with the handling that this set up gives me!
Title: Re: sveed1.8T - '01 GT TDI
Post by: sveed1.8T on 25 February 2012, 01:30
I would definitely have it lower, but am keeping a sensible head atm! Certainly wouldn't rule it out!

Massive weight of my mind getting it through the MOT, even if i did spend a few £££ on completely redoing the suspension :lipsrsealed: Wishbones were good, even if I did have to go and purchase ball joints from ECP!

Really want to get my bumpers sprayed and fitted, but will probably wait a month or so for funds! That, and I'm extremely busy at work right now :undecided:

Got something else in the pipeline as well, but you'll all just have to wait and see...

Haven't done anything to major to the car recently, as I haven't really had time :undecided: I did however need two new front tyres on my 18" Monza II's. Went and treated myself to some 225/40 Pirellis!

My god do they stick to the road well!!! I also had my tracking done, as they were out... by quite a lot! :lipsrsealed: All fixed now though!

Several months ago on here someone decided to mod the Mk5 gear knob to their Mk4, n did a good job too. This gave me the inspiration to change from my standard 6speed knob (although I didn't want to follow the trend of going Anni or R32). I really like the look of the Mk5 GTI gear knob, but they were all selling for in excess of £80 on ebay :undecided:

I was scanning through eBay at all VAG gear knobs n came across this one that was fitted to Ibiza's, Leon's, Exeo's etc. It's a tad 'sportier' than my previous gear knob, n at £18.50 posted, what's not to like!

Thought I should update this with the pics from my recent mod of fitting the 3" air feed pipe into my airbox

Was a right little bugger of a job, as there is literally only just enough room for a pipe this wide, n that included having to rearrange the postioning of several parts, but it was worth it!

Just been to the Bodyshop to drop off all the bits I'm having sprayed

-Smooth front bumper
-Front Anni valance (ABS rep)
-R32 side skirts (ABS rep)
-R32 rear bumper (genuine)
-R32 spoiler (genuine)

Really looking forward to seeing the finished article, especially as I'm having the Anni valance smoothed into the front bumper

Pics will be uploaded as soon as I get everything back! :afro:

Right, whilst I had a bit of spare time, I thought i'd go about doing my own DIY Audi TT wheel arch mod!

I bought my vent for a grand total of £3.99 from HomeBase!
When I removed the arch, I got a bit of a surprise with the amount of crap that had built up!
After cleaning all of the crap out, I cut a rectangle out of the wheel arch, sprayed the vent black, n screwed it into place.
After refitting the arch, it looked like this

As I had the wheel arch out, I chose to trim the foam that sits on the inside of the wings, as it's this that causes the arches to rust (which mine have)!
As the foam has rotted away my wheel arch already, I thought I'd treat myself to some of these
Completely smoothed wings!!

Any news on the bits yet?

Stop clogging up my build thread Jon! This isn't DubRides!

I always go on the basis, that if they put it as standard on the TT, there has to be some benefit! Which is why I've also got the S3 upper strut brace!

I think the logic behind the vent, is that as cool air flows through the SMIC, it heats up, and then cannot freely exit the cavity behind the intercooler. As a result of this, you end up with a pocket of warm air constantly sitting behind the intercooler, therefore making it 'marginally' hotter than it could be if you were able to let this hot air escape. With the vent into the wheel arch, the hot air coming from the intercooler can then freely flow straight out and reduce the heat in the cavity! :nerd: Or something like that anyway

I didnt even get round to doing the passenger side, so I'd imagine it'll be just as bad! :undecided:

No news yet, but patience is the key!!

I know it has been a long arse time since I last posted on here, but it's not for me not doing stuff to the car!

The trouble is, I start one mod, n see something else, then start that, n just hadn't got round to finishing anything! At the moment, on the go, I've got:

Project black headlining
Immo3 Bora sport clocks (to be fitted)
Honeycomb upper and lower grills
STILL waiting back on my bodywork

However, here's something I started, n finished!

Saw this on eBay, and have wanted one for a while...

Right, biggest update in a while

Started off by changing my pollen filter and fuel filter, in preparation of the service I am due. I also changed the coolant tank as well, as I was getting pissed off at the 'STOP... Check coolant' message coming up everytime I started the car! :lipsrsealed: Look how crappy the old one is compared to the lovely fresh one!
...and fitted

I have also got round to finishing off the headlining, and as promised, I have got pics to show the work  I am so pleased with the finish, especially with the contrast of the black carpets and cream leathers!

Happy New Year! Told you I wouldn't post until now!

Nothing too exciting, as I've got my MOT due soon, but this was a pig of a job, so I thought I'd take pics, as it was an achievement and a half!

Track rod arms and ends (the whole god damn thing)...

Old miserable one..
Lovely new one..

This was made harder by a number of factors, lack of space, laying on my side most of the time, and the bloody nuts on the track rod ends unscrewing so far before the whole bolt would turn in the track rod end!! It meant that I had to use a junior hacksaw (only thing I had available) to sheer the feckers off!

Note: To anyone changing these, there is a distinct lack of space on the drivers side, so good luck!

Needless to say, both sides are done, everything is tracked up, and time to cross fingers for the MOT! :lipsrsealed:

Forgot to add, this will be fitted before my MOT as well!

Audi TT arb, with adjustable droplinks. Does it look like I'm going lower, maybe?!

A couple of issues with the arb, but all fixed up and feeling good!!

More importantly, the car passed its MOT!!!

Massive weight off my shoulders, and it means that I can focus on getting the new bumpers on and sorting out some 50mm H&R springs, as conveniently, I can now go lower!

Just a small update...

I recalled having error codes from ages ago and decided to stop being lazy and sort them out. Scanned it and only found 17664 (engine coolant sensor). Then it made me think, I've replaced the coolant tank. I erased the code, started the car up, and then re-scanned it. No codes!!

I've also been in contact with the Bodyshop and my parts are weeks away from completion. Gonna be a monster update when all the parts get put on the car

Here is a cheeky one of the rear bumper stripped down...

I've been a little bid happy on eBay and I seem to have amassed a few bits for the car

1 x Allard EGR delete
1 x TurboRevs SMIC
1 x 45' bend Aluminium pipe (which is too small  but will be replaced with a 57mm one)
2 x 90' bend silicone hoses
4 x 50-70mm jubilee clips
1 x 1metre of braided fuel line
1 x Twin fuel line separator clamp

This should keep me occupied for a little while

Turborevs intercooler is now fitted. As is the Osram night breaker headlights and new Bosch battery  I've also got another little surprise to add to my thread, but it's not quite sorted yet

Anyway, here is the before and after pics of the SMIC...

I've been buying bits again...

Managed to pick up a Seat double din Satnav for a massive £72!!! :smug:
Considering that this is exactly the same as the VW unit fitted to some top spec Mk4's (but with Seat logo on start up) I think I have got quite a bargain. The VW equivalent sells for £200+

Not how I hoped to reach the 10,000 views, but unfortunately my lovely little diesel is no longer!

I'm sorry to have let the Mk4 side down, but this morning I was subjected to some slippery/oily dual carriageway as I was changing lanes, resulting in this... :lipsrsealed:

Most importantly, no one else was involved, and I walked away from it without a scratch on me! I'm sad that it's the end for the girl, especially as her credentials are fantastic, but she held up when it really mattered, and I'm grateful for it! Bless her, even after this, she still starts up without hesitation

Worryingly, there appears to have been at least two other crashes in exact the same spot (judging by a graveyard of car trim, wheels and smashed up trees)! I highlighted this to the highways agency, and he said that it happens quite a lot, as if there is a oily residue on the road, quite often it's presence can be felt, long after the initial spill, resulting in these 'black spots' for accidents :undecided:

All that matters is the fact that I walked away from it mate!

Writing a post in a bit with ALL of the parts available

Here are a couple more pics of the damage...

Still can't get how I have had a side impact crash, and the drivers door is virtually untouched and fully functioning!! I'm not superstitious, but it is weird!
New intercooler is, erm, not as big as when I bought it!
Struggled to get the spare wheel out, as the car had such force from the side impact!
When I managed to prize open the bonnet, the S3 strut brace had a slight upwards curve in it, where it had transferred the force, to the opposing strut. Had this not been fitted to the car, the damage would have been substantially greater!! :lipsrsealed: Go buy an S3 strut brace people!! It might just save your life!

Another friend in a mk4 spun not long ago and car caught fire. The thing that saved his life.....a strut brace.

Not only does it help handling it can save your life.

What's your plans for a car now then tony? What about your bumpers? Shame u never got them on but hopefully u can sell them on before he paints them?

I wish I had taken a pic of the strut brace, but it's too late now. As I said though, it wasn't horrendously distorted, just a slight upwards camber. It certainly prevented any more of the car folding in in itself! I forgot to add, the strut brace spread so much force to the other side, that the top mount got destroyed and the shock has dropped out of the strut altogether!! :lipsrsealed:

Quite possibly the best thing I invested in!!

As for bumpers, (no r32 front - it's smooth with Anni balance smoothed in), they never got painted, so i'll probably just sell them on, after paying Sham for the work he has done :undecided:

As for car... Hoping to have something sorted by the end of the month!
