engine oil for a gti 1.8 t

what engine oil should i top up my gti 1.8t  :smiley:

well... Vw say 5-30 synth or even 0-30. However most on here put 10-40 semi synth. Im changing mine next week and aint sure what to use yet, 75k on the clock. Im tempted to use the 10-40 but then not sure on which brand? Hopefully someone will be along soon to let us know the way forward

10/40 all the way mate in my turbo and the mrs 2.0 :wink:

I was using 5W30 fully synth and the car did sound quite tappety.  As it has done 106000 miles VW suggested changed to 10W40 semi-synth and having just changed the oil it is running alot smoother and quieter :smiley:  Not only that the new oil is almost half the price  :wink:

i used the opie website for info and stated i should use castrol edge 5/30 fully synth and she's running spot on-97k on the clocks

I run 5/40 quantum platinum fully synth in mine.

I'm on 144k... I'm wondering if I should change to 10/40.. guy who had it before used to run it for 3.5 yrs on that but I was recommended to change to fully synth on here. Have ran it for... 17k now on that (changing every 6k) with no issues.

Whatcha think?  :undecided:

Im now running 10w40 as the miles are getting on  :smiley:

10w40 for me to and i change it every 3-4k or 3months wichever comes first :grin: :grin:
