speedometer cluster

Hi can anyone out there tell me why my speedo cluster is illuminated without switching the lights on.?

In mk6 and mk7 Golfs, the instrument cluster illumination works like this;

• good lighting conditions - instrumentation is illuminated
• poor / dark lighting conditions - only the instrument needles are illuminated, until you switch your lights on

This is to prompt you to put your lights on in poor lighting conditions, or when the outside light fades, so you can still see your dashboard instrumentation.

Hi thanks for replying but mine is a mk4 golf. it has never illuminated without switching the lights on.
