your thoughts please
« on: 29 April 2008, 14:37 »
So I know everyone pretty much upgrades to 18" / 19" wheels I was thinking of doing something a bit differnt.

I was considering sticking with the 16" wheels i got but get them re furb'd in satin Black, now with this in mind how low can you go on 16" to the point where speed bumps dont become an issue? Im assuming you can go lower on 16" ?

Just though it would be a bit differnt, any comments welcome cheers

personally I think 16's look lost on mk4's due to the massive arches
Will always love my mk4 but she had to go...225 Quattro TT in its place....but its still black (she lives on in spirit!)

shouldn't be able to go any lower on 16s than you could 19s because the rolling radius (wheel + tyre) is, or should be, exactly the same. On the 16s the profile is just larger.

I've tried both 16's & 18's, & TBH, I'm itching to try some 17's.  18's looked miles better, but it made the car feel a bit more clumsy handling wise (performance was also hampered).  That's why I went back to 16's.  Anything bigger than 18's, & I think the proportions of the car start to go awry - It starts looking a bit 'Bigfoot', LOL!!  :afro:

iv got 18's on mine but havent lowered yet, i dont think i have lost any ride quality to be honest, but i probably will once i get coilovers on. i had 17's on my astra and they looked and felt awesome, but like said above, the arches on the golf are so big that even 18's sometimes look small, see my signature below.....
