Well I was told 2 years ago that the Mk5 would be the last Golf as VW wanted to introduce new models and the Golf just sat inappropriately right in the middle. That's why I'm thinking that the Polo and Golf will be eventually merged into one vehicle, and considering the Mk5 is just so similar to the current Polo I think it's now at a position where they can easily be merged into one.
How many years was it before Ford dropped the Escort name, completely revamped that particular market with the Focus, and resulted in the best selling family hatch year on year? The VW brands have become dull over the years. The Lupo, Polo, Golf, Passatt and Sharan are all dull, uninteresting and over priced. SEAT have produced Sporty and Stylish cars, Skoda have produced Cheap and Reliable cars, and Audi have produced cars to challenge the likes of BMW and Mercedes. VW have now launched the Phaeton and Toureg, what the hell are they aimed at? If you had ?50k in your piggy bank, you really would not consider a Phaeton because it's just a big Passatt (like a Skoda Superb), neither would you have a Toureg, you'd have a Range Rover. Just where are VW trying to place themselves with their high priced branding?
