I did give the Mk2 a wash and QD a couple of weeks ago. It only ever gets dusty, so it doesn't even need it's wax topping up. The daily cars are getting rather neglected at the moment. If I don't have time to clean them properly, I'd rather leave them alone. I never seem to have the time these days, as I'm chasing my monthly mileage totals on Garmin Connect when even the chance arises.

As for buying another car, A) I've lost all interest in them and B) the hunt is on for a building project. If fact I've made an offer on a knackered cottage with an acre of land, but despite it being the "offers in the region of" price, the seller seems to want to wait until it is properly advertised to see if any higher offers come in. I can see it going for more money than I'm prepared to muster.

How's the cycling going.  Any sportives coming up?  Haven't managed to get out on mine much lately but now we've got the Amarok at least we can just chuck (carefully place) them all in the back and go off in the one vehicle, without worrying about damaging the R or getting mud all over the place.  A few off road outings are on the cards this winter.

Now your building project sounds interesting.  Are you renovating to sell or renting it out, or keeping as a weekend/holiday home.  You could plant a nice orchard in that acre, nice manageable size.  Hope you manage to secure it at your budgeted price.  Are you planning on doing it all the work yourself, or get other trades in?  Got good contacts? I would think so, you being an architect.  Shame you are so far away as we have good contacts in just about every trade.

Let us know how you get on.

After some glowing recommendations on here, I bought some Bouncers Done and Dusted QD. It arrived this morning so seemed only right to give it a go since I only cleaned the car yesterday. Excellent stuff, brings out the glossy shine a treat! Never thought I'd be out before breakfast drying the dew from my car and then polishing it! I might have to adjust my medication...

Glad you like it. I was really impressed with the finish it left, the bodywork was so smooth.

I'm contemplating buying their Winter wax 'Fortify'.  I've already bought some Collinite 845 ready for my winter prep but I've seen a few pics of the Fortify on the Detailing World forum and really like want I've seen so far. Decisions, decisions  :undecided:

Cheers Blackmass, really good stuff. I also like that you can pretty much use it all over the car. I've got some C2V3 to apply soon for the winter which was also recommended on here somewhere. As I mentioned in a previous post, I found some swirl marks on the bonnet last night which I'd really like polishing but I think with the pennies in my pocket dwindling fast, that'll have to wait until next year. Afterall, it's not like they'll be going anywhere!

**Apologies to anyone upset by non-VAG content **

No detailing done on the GTi today unfortunately. Poor car is looking neglected after 3 weeks without a clean, the longest its ever been! Helping my Mum move house has taken priority though and I haven't found the time recently.

My gear has started arriving for my winter prep detail though and had a good opportunity to test out one in particular today. My fiancée picked up this 2 year old Fiesta Ecoboost this morning. Personally I really like it. She couldn't stretch to a Polo Bluemotion GT unfortunately, but the Fiesta really has surprised me. Anyway, the standard dealer prep obviously wasn't up to the standard of us detailing type and being white, I had the perfect excuse to test my new fallout remover, Bilt Hamber Korrosol.

Previously using IronX, I really rate the Korrosol and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again. The supplied spray head worked better and got better coverage than IronX, the smell was a hundred times better and it certainly didn't lack in effectiveness!

And here's the new car looking much better after 4 hours work:

2011 GTI DSG 5dr, Tornado Red, 18" Monza Shadows, Heated Leather, RNS-510, MDI, Bilstein B16 PSS10 Coilovers, Ohlins DCC Cancellation Kit, Audi TT-RS Front Top Mounts, Whiteline 24mm Rear ARB, Michelin Pilot Sport 4, 034 Motorsports Street Density Engine and Gearbox Mounts, Audi R8 Red Coil Packs, NGK BKR7EIX, Millers 5W-40 Nanodrive

i8s? Fiesta's? it's all detailing, so bring it on.

Great work Dan.

Will be doing the same this weekend on mine, but with IronX.  Not as satisfying on a black car though as you don't see it turning purple on the car (ok on the wheels), until it runs off onto the gravel driveway.  Purple gravel is the new trend, didn't you know..

Managed to finally get started on giving it the first detail today, though have to complete it next weekend. I'd asked the dealer not to touch it after removing transport stickers, so there was a lot of glue residue along the roof line, lower sills B pillars, and on the windscreen.

Today all that came off with the decontamination phase -  wash - IronX - Tardis - clay.

So a bit of this:

Valet Pro Advanced Snow Foam

And this:

IronX iron remover

Followed by Tardis bug and tar remover (no pics - hands too gooey to pick up camera!) and started claying it but still few panels to do.  Gave it a final wash.

Next weekend: Finish claying - light DA polish - seal - wax.

Work in progress, but here's a pic of it with it's big bro Amarok. Excuse the rusty brake discs, normally clean them off with a quick spin but the beast was in the way.
