Because its a 3 door. But then techniclly so is the rado. Meh i know what you mean. OEM immob n alarm are easy to remove, just be sure to reattach the wires theyve been t'd into.

he's in SA so to him it's probably a coupe, not that it's relevant to his issue

the VAG standard immobiliser system lets you start the car but after 1-3 seconds will cut the power, if it was the alarm then it would have the siren going off, the transponder box is under the dash to the side of the centre console, follow the wires attached to the ring on the ignition barrel, there should also be a chip in the key, the cjip, transponder ring and ECU all have to be part of the same family, if you have one of the items brothers or cousin then they won't mate together, no incest possible in the VW group lol

Not relevant @ all.. But slipped my mind that it is a hatch and the fact that I owned many coupe bmw's.
Anyway, the car is not fitted wit factory alarm but aftermarket.. Decided I'll take her to agents.. I need her on the road..
Thx 4 the input thou

if it fires for 1-3 seconds then that points at factory immobiliser, after market ones tend to do nothing at all, not even crank the starter, if you take your key apart (put a coin at the plastic end and twist to open) you should see a tiny black block

http://i.ebayimg.com/t/VW-GOLF-MK2-MK3-JETTA-MK2-MK3-BLANK-KEY-FOB-CHIP-ID42-T10-/00/s/ODM0WDk3Mw==/$%28KGrHqJ,!k4E+e6CFpS1BP4NjlTSF!~~60_35.JPG

if you have that then you have a factory immobiliser, afaik all mk3's were fitted with them as standard
