Title: MY19 Golf R - Down on Power?
Post by: Chief1337 on 08 January 2019, 11:00
Hi All,

Not posted for a while, despite reading the forum most days!

Dropped the GTi at the garage this AM for some work and got chatting to one of the sales team.

He mentioned that the MY2019 Golf R is 300 BHP rather than 310 BHP to get through WLTP sign-off. Anyone have any more details on this ? Be keen to know what different (likely minimal) it makes to overall performance, economy etc.

I believe it is true, but remember the R was only putting out 310bhp since the 7.5 face lift. All mark 7 R’s put out 300bhp.

Ah! That's interesting!

True. It's now running a US spec engine. No MPI, no resonator, and reduced power.

All the new UK new & unregistered 310 engine cars have been snapped up, so it's post WLTP R's from now on.

Yes that’s the case with the R, much to the extreme delight of those that got the massive extra 10bhp before it was gone!

Yep, early 2018 car with the £3k akra exhaust would be perfect for pops and bangs and full 306bhp!

Thanks all! Does anyone have a spec sheet for a 2019 R? Keen to see all changes. I assume it'll have the reversing camera/winter pack as standard like the GTi does now?

Thinking about changing, but all these changes are a little worrying.

Just out of interest, do the MK7.5 GTi's with the GPF still have a reasonator? I know it's widely reported that the exhaust sounds a little fruitier than the pre facelift.

Yes, they do. The exhaust is louder stock on the Performance that than the 230bhp GTI. And mine is even louder now! (see exhaust thread!). Not sure how it compares to Mk7s though.

Thanks Clarky92 ! Really helpful.

Am I right in saying the winter pack (heated seats etc) is now standard as well on the MY19 R?

As of today Carwow is reporting that the Golf R is no longer in production ?! Mistake surely?

Checked with a couple of dealers, appears to be a mistake by carwow. Likely due to the changes.
