Airbag faults on Polo Gti 2001
« on: 19 March 2012, 09:51 »
Hi,

I've been trying to diagnose my airbag fault and getting really frustrated.
With VCDS Lite I am getting the following codes:

Tuesday, 28 February 2012, 21:58:31:0
VCDS-Lite Version: Release 1.0
Control Module Part Number: 1C0 909 601
Component and/or Version: 2A AIRBAG VW51 02
Software Coding: 12865
Work Shop Code: WSC 00788

3 Faults Found:
00532 - Supply Voltage B+
07-10 - Signal too Low - Intermittent

01299 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
49-10 - Please Register/Activate - Intermittent

65535 - Shareware Version. To Decode all DTCs
00-00 - Please Register/Activate

I have tried clearing them with the lite version but they keep coming back.

So far I have replaced the fuses on the battery and also had an airbag tester on there which seemed to say similar errors.
General poking about would seem to indicate that the airbad ECU is faulty, but if this was the case then the fuel pump would be shut off and the car would not start, based on the wiring diagrams.

Couple of questions:

1. Would having a full version clear these codes?
2. Should I just replace the airbag ECU?

Gut instinct tells me that the airbag ECU is fried but if so, then how does the car still run?
The guy at the garage that fitted my new ABS pump said he thinks that the Airbag system had gone off at some point and thus would need a new airbag ECU.

Does anyone know the part number for the airbag ECU?

Please PM me if you are in the Bedford/MK area and can have a scan of my car with the full version of VAG-COM / VCDS. Case of beers in it for you if you can.

!m!

vcds already gave you the part number for the airbag ECU  1C0 909 601

the fault codes point towards there being an internal rom error (often caused by being scanned by unofficial equipment) rather than there being any crash data stored.

Ahhh. Ok. So probably best just to replace the airbag ecu then?
