Heating Inop.
« on: 09 November 2019, 16:36 »
No the cold has arrived it appears my heater is on the blink. Car heats up fine(waterpump &thermostat recently done) but I’m getting virtually no heat through the vents. Leaving it running a while and there is a slight improvement but barely warm at best.

Anyone had this? Google would suggest possible heater matrix which sounds expensive.

It’s a 63 plate with 30k.

My only thought might be that there's some form of airlock in the heater matrix circuit from having the pump/thermostat done.

Have a look under the bonnet and check the hoses that go through the firewall to see if they're warm.

After that, I'd be stumped lol.

Thanks plan to have a closer look under the bonnet but it’s too cold just like in the car!

I've seen a few people with heater matrix problems on forums.... it does sound like its that to me.

And yes, that is expensive.

Looking likely...was planning on getting rid next summer so could do without the expense not sure I can get through a Scottish winter without it working.

Just to update.

Confirmed matrix block due to the bag in the header tanks splitting.

New matrix and header tank fitted and system flushed.

Now £500 lighter. Was done at an indie who is doing around 1 or 2 a week.

Ok, I was right

£500 is less than the £1500 main stealers want.

This is one of the reasons I'm not hanging onto a Mk7.x beyond 3 years :D

what exactly is the point of those bags, and can they be safely removed to prevent this ?

Would it not be better for people long term to just change the coolant every two years and get rid of the bag if they are an issue. Obviously VW won't want to do that though
