16" Steel wheels
« on: 25 September 2011, 20:37 »
Hi,
Can anyone recommend a supplier for 16" steel wheels to take me winter tyres that are suitable for a MK6 GTD.
Thanks.

I bought some 16" VW alloys from a local breakers yard. £120 for all four.

The Goodyear Ultragrip 8 is looking like the best winter tyre this year.

Good buy that, how's your GTD working out for you?

Big improvement over my mk5 1.9 TDI.

DSG is a dream to drive. Xenon lights look so cool and I really notice the difference when I drive my old car at night. Glad I got the ACC for the roads I drive on. Though it is still not as comfortable as the last car. Park assist works for me and is fun to use. Tend not to use the rear camera, but it is useful occasionally. Parking sensors I use all the time.

The only downside I can think of is - I'm surprised by the large amount of road noise. I ordered 4 Ultra grip 8 winter tyres today. I imagine they might make a big difference with the softer compound, higher profile and narrower tyre.

The only problem I have is what to do with the £350 worth of UK leisure vouchers VW gave me for having to wait 9 months for delivery. I want to spend them in Halfords. My fiancee wants to spend them on a weekend break for 2 at a luxury hotel. hmmmm???

If your car is shod with Bridgestone tyres, the road noise can be quite annoying and it gets worse with 18" rims.

I agree with you regarding the parking sensors and would use them more often than a rear camera. It is for this reason I specified F/R sensors and ditched the camera option, though many swear by it. I think it is the novelty value which sways them.

Oh, I simply love ACC.

I agree with your lady. Have a holiday and don't bother with Halfords. She is 100% on the money. Yours obviously!

The camera is a seriously useful piece of kit, retrofitted to my car which is without sensors; so I find it considerably helpful when reversing.  It has stopped me crashing into numerous walls and is very accurate.  I can't recommend it highly enough.

I fully agree with you Amanda that if you don't have rear sensors, the camera is the best way to go.
