Never a truer word was said in jest, but that does not hold true in reality. Mind you, one needs to try everything before death do us part.

I'll jump in for the tiny wheels

I'm glad I've got the 17 inch wheels.

They are just that little bit more comfortable.

They are easier to look after (less likely to suffer from the dreaded kerbs)

There is no lacquer on them which might peel off (although mine are black so different anyway)

and... tyres are reasonably priced. £100 a corner for Michelin Pilot Sport 3's.

My mate has 19 inch wheels and he had to fork out £300 for 1 x Michelin Pilot Sport 2.

Before I ordered latest MK6 I test drove 18" demo on local roads and it was OK.  Obviously they didn't have a 17" demo to compare, so I had to wait until my order arrived !

In comparison the 17" is just a much nicer experience.  After all I didn't buy the car to satisfy the aesthetics Police.

Put it this way:
Two women (or men), one not too attractive (17") but a good ride the other a stunner (18") but a reasonable ride.
Which one would you go for?
I know one thing, the doggy one would not give me a hard-on even though she/he was supposed to be a good ride. So it would be a waste.
On that note, I'll have the stunner and have satisfaction guaranteed.

Different strokes for different folks and all that jazz .....

At least you did not get it stolen or have R32UK ram it.

I agree...if 'nicer' is wobbly sidewalls and less precise steering!...with a slightly more compliant ride...but then, it's a GTI isn't it? Not a Lexus?

I noticed the 18" winter wheels were slightly more comfortable than the 19"s...but the bigger wheels offer more precise steering.

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.
