As with most cars though it ain't about the 0-60 it is more about the 30-70 in the quickest gears, for safer overtaking in day to day useage

Anyone know where I can get these 30-70 figures?

30-70 per Autocar is 5.8 secs, vs a focus ST with 6.4 secs.

i presume those are through the gears figures, since they also quote 30-70 in 4th gear in 8.8 secs for the Golf vs 10.1 for the Focus ST

note also that Autocar quote 0-60 in 6.7 secs

some other 30-70 times through the gears (all from the back of Autocar)

Golf GTI mk 6 - 5.8

Focus ST - 6.4   (despite same weight and and extra 15bhp)
Focus RS - 4.9

Alfa 147 GTA - 5.4   (despite 250 bhp!)

Audi S3 - 5.1

Civic type R - 6.4

Mazda rx8 - 6.8

MINI Cooper S - 6.5

Leon Cupra - 5.5

Octavia Vrs - 6.3

Corsa 1.6 VXR - 5.6 (!)

Astra VXR - 5.7 (slower than its baby bro!)

R32 - 5.7 (ok ok, it is 0.1 sec quicker than the GTi)

Scirocco - 6.1 (isnt this supposed to be the sporty one?)

and the big one.... Mk V GTi - 6.3   (ooooooh!)   (had to get this from the Autocar website)

Thanks!
It just show how good the gti chassis is! Not a single bhp is wasted!
Not sure whether you guys seen that video on Autocar---Focus RS vs Clio. The Clio had no prob. keeping up with the Focus! Just show more bhp thru the front wheels despite all those hours of chassis development is a total waste!

i used my launch control yesterday and what can i say this thing is rapid off the line and there was hardly any wheel spin, it does not waste hardly any power i honestly belive this is alot quicker than my astra vxr nurburgring just for the sheer fact it can put all the power down unlike the astra
Sad that i have not got my Astra VXR Nurburgring anymore but well happy with my Mk6 GTi, much better car

I dont agree with alot of those in gear times comparissons. The often used the same gear and measure how long it takes a car to cover the same speed increase... well with many different gear ratios across the range the are all obviously going to vary.

A more accurate way of measuring performance would be to see how long it takes each car to cover the same speed increase in that particular cars optimum gear for that range...  if that makes sense

i hear what you're saying R32UK, however at the end of the day if different cars have different gearing, then thats a true life reflection of their performance.  no measure will be absolutely perfect.

one which came close was the TED from Performance Car iirc.  This was time exposed to danger and measured how long it look to overtake a lorry.

Erm, you are aware that cars can drop gears?

You couldnt do that test in a DSG for example as it will drop to the optimum gear; what you are supposed to do!
