Centre console / ciggy lighter removal
« on: 07 May 2009, 18:08 »
Keeps blowing fuses, so i'm trying to disconnect the lighter. How do i get the lower panel off so i can get behind the cigarette lighter?

Cheers

two philips screws each side of the centre console that hold the dash trays up

one screw under the gear gator. It should then slide forward and out.

Cig lighter plug removed and walla

EDIT: I remember having this fuse problem. It was a mix of wrong fuses and too much things that ran off the cig lighter feed.

Thanks mate, managed to get it off and unplug the lighter. No more blowing fuses

Car will just have to go without a cig lighter for now :)

Just run a new wire from the fusebox on the IGN live? That way you can still have your cig lighter - you might not need it now, but knowing sods law ...

Well it's my mates Mk2, and I'm sure he'll want it for his phone charger, so we'll look into it :)

Thanks

I take it your current cig lighter internals are bent and it is shorting?

Not sure mate, I just pulled the plug out from behind it and then tried a new fuse. It didn't blow so we've left it at that for now.

Going back to it after the weekend so i'll see what was causing it

Mr Blue, I don’t even care how old your post is, thank you so much for this!! The rest of the internet was slightly less helpful
