Things to look out for when buying a Golf...

With the recent compaints and shocking pictures of Andy1814  and other members on other Golf GTI etc sites... I figured that perhaps we should start a topic that others can make use of when buying a Golf 5.

Please remember this topic is not here to make the Golf look bad or for other possible buyers of this awesome car to have second thoughts...

Please feel free to post any problems or suggestions you might have for other forum members to take a look at before taking delivery of their new car. The idea is that when taking delvery of this car you will have a set of guidelines (Is that the right word?) so that you can perhaps see future problems or be able to notice a problem before your car leaves the showroom. 

I hope this can help future Golf Drivers.

The issues I've had amount to.

Car not set up for yearly servicing, as I asked (not the end of the world TBH)

Transport blocks not being removed.

Bottle opener missing.(common)

Damaged tailgate

I would recommend do not pay too high a deposit. Seams 250 is the right amount. I paid much more, had some issues with the dealer and always felt the high deposit I had paid reduced the service and responsiveness which I needed. Therefore, pay 250 max to keep everything on buyers side.

I know its obvious but shop around, do not walk blindly into your local stealer with your pants down (unless you are in to that sort of thing of course! )

I saved over £150 a month on a PCP deal using a broker rather than the stealers finance (12% Apr compared to 7.9%).  Oh and take Whatcar with you and get them to match the Target price.  Make them squirm!!!

No, you miss-understand me.

I fully expect a car, or any detailed mechanical component, be it a Rolex or a washing machine - to develop faults from time to time.  That aspect doesn't particularly bother me.  What really gets on my man-boobs is incompetent stealers, and stealers that blatantly LIE to customers - that is the inexcusable bit!
