Title: White smoke when accelerating
Post by: Jamesjohnmk4 on 20 August 2018, 03:30
Hi, I have a golf gti mk4 1.8. I do believe something is wrong with the turbo.
So the issues I'm having, I'll be driving fine. And as soon as I slightly put my foot down, cloud of white smoke out of my exhaust.
I have a brand new ko4 turbo but I know that's more money than it's worth.
My question is, do I need to replace my turbo or is there a way to fix it without it being expensive.

Is it losing coolant or oil? This time of year it could simply be condensation in the exhaust. Take it out for a long/enthusiastic run to dry it off, then go for another drive same day see if it reoccurs. Dont do it next day as overnight it'll condensate again.

Is it smoke......... or steam that whiffs away ( like the kettle boiling)

Does the smoke/Steam smell sweet or like exhaust?
