Hi all,
Guess you could say I'm a born again dub fan - owned 8 fords (2 mk3 1300 escorts, 2 xr2's - one was a track car made road car with twin carbs mmmmm - mk3 xr3i, xr21 8v, Fiesta RS Turbo and Escort Cosworth Replica - in no real order...) previous (oh n a nova gte but shhhhhhhhhhh...). My current daily hack is an early 16v Corrado that i have owned nearly a year and in that short time i can say that I'm loving the dub scene... Which made me think that i should have a project - ideally the corrado would have been it but i need it as a daily driver for work, so...
I picked up a Mk1 Golf 3dr driver in white about 3 weeks ago (free to a good home...)!!! So i am building a Mk1 and hopefully it will be retro and wait for it... hot rod themed... unfortunately no big flames and no 5 litre Chevy v8 either I'm afraid! As fare as Hot Rods go, I just love their interior styling and they tend follow two routes for styling - slick bodywork and top notch paintjobs - chrome everywhere or rat rod sort of style where everything kinda looks a little unfinished but remains very original (whereas orginal means using original oem parts...) i on the other hand wanna find a middle ground...
I have noticed this section seems to be full of Mk2 golfs - i understand theres more of em around (and personally have no problem with them!), but a big reason i went for a Mk1 cos its different and has that classic style - oh and it reminds us how the scene started...
I already have some pics of the car when i picked it up - an '83 3dr driver (called "Bunni" guess thats what having girlfriends does to ya - makes you name your car!)... its up my friends farm at the moment - stripped and in the workshop, ready for bodywork to commence. So will start the write up with them below...
I will be providing an update every weekend at least - well in pics anyway, if i buy parts in between then i can post as and when it happens. But due to work, basketball, college and second job commitments i only really have time at weekends.
Hope this sounds of interest to some if not all of you and sorry for babbling on...
Cheers Ian (Whiteee)
