Building a false floor
« on: 13 December 2010, 12:09 »
Hi Guys

Just a quick one - has anybody built a false floor in the back of a mk3? just after rough ideas of what it will look like.

Cheers

Mitch

i built one, its level with the 2 side "ledges" by the arches, i like it, good sturdy floor that you can mount a subwoofer to and screw it on so the sub wont move around when your driving oh and excuse the choice of cover

Why you want a false floor? Gonna do away with the spare wheel?

Well i plan on building it so it can be lifted to get access to the spare wheel but i have taken out the rear seats so i want to go from the boot all the way through to where the seats used to be.

I will also be making it so i can sink my subs into it and hide the amps

good idea about sinking the subs and hiding the amp too

Looks like i need to break out the tape measure and get my maths hat on to work out how much air the subs will have!

That covering you have is wicked! but mine will be covered in a Faux suede that i am doing most other things in!

I think i will have to document my work so others can do the same

In your case then the under seat area would be ideal for 2 subs.

Thats what i was thinking - but would i need to port it? or would it be ok to just build a solid box the size of where the seats used to be?

Is it better to build the enclosure, sink the subs into it and then cover with the material or build the unit, cover in material and then sink the subs so you can see them?

I think i will have to draw up plans on where to mount everything and also get some heavy duty wiring

Does it really matter what speaker cabling i use? i am just thinking i can get some super home theatre speaker cable from The Chord Co.!!! maybe some of this stuff : Chord carnival Classic Speaker cable

exactly what i did  just remember to take a few mm off because of the material you cover it with,

and a sealed box will work, just depends what size subs you have
