Garage rang today and told me that the gear change display can be done (theyd drawn a blank yesterday and had to ring VW technical!) but will need a software update (ECU)
So your having it enabled with a software update then? I wonder if this is a new update as when I asked the dealer if there were any updates they said no and they said it can't be enabled. I shall have to get on to them again, thanks for the info.

Do you have to rip out the ecu to get it to do that?

Yes but I'd say I removed it gently using the best of tools

Some don't need to be removed btw

Mine's going to be the most economical as I am going to use my Freedom Pass. As far as speed is concerned, it will be slow on the stinking tubes, but at least it's free.
This makes me Emperor Cheapskate.
