Worth remembering VW had to fit a turbo to get a extra 25bhp.

Which I think it's a crap effort as the ABF has 4 less valves and it's a NA engine yet they both produce the same power. Either the ABF is a great engine, or the 20vT is pure balls (when standard).

Yes but the difference is torque, 16v is 133lbs ft, 1.8t is 155lbs ft also worth remembering it is a lot cheaper and easier to get more power out of the 1.8t.

Nope, the most you will see is 4 or 5bhp.

A standard ABF will destroy a standard 20vT though, ABF holds the power for longer.

a standard mk3 16v gti being quicker than a standard mk4 1.8t gti is irrelevant, weight is the biggest factor there. As an engine, the 20vt trounces the ABF, sorry to burst your bubble

Oh and bear in mind the mk4 will have a fair bit more of weight on it.

stock 1.8T plot

Len's ABF

1.8T power/weight ratio is 118.51hp/ton

ABF power/weight ratio is 140.08hp/ton

ABF 0-60 is 8.0 seconds according to VW
1.8T is 8.5 seconds.

And toph, I know as an engine the 1.8T is far better. If I had the money I would have stuck a 1.8T in there rather than an ABF.

I was talking about the mk3 with the ABF and the mk4 with the 1.8T, compare them standard, and VW went backwards.

i see no mention of mk3 or mk4 there laddy   be more specific when you're slagging my favourite engine

those dyno graphs just prove the 1.8t superiority further btw
