1.4 TSI Twincharge
« on: 15 January 2009, 00:02 »
This is the supercharged and turbo'd engine yes?

if so, what sort of power gains and performance figures would i be looking at if say i was to drop one in a mk1 golf that weighed 1100 kg's?

Have you looked into this engine yet? if so what other mods would you recomend before going for a map and chip?

This engine intregues me and im very keen to learn more, found this if its any help, probably isnt lol

cheers, ian

The twin charger comes in 140 and 170 guise, but they're basically both the same. With software on running 98ron we're seeing around 205bhp with 200ftlb. The engine's great, really likes to be revved and in a MKV Golf gives a stock Gti a run for it's money... but still gives you very good fuel economy. Would be a great engine to put into a MK1, you'd need all the clocks, keys, loom, etc. though!

Not caried out any work on them as yet, we have just got our new OBD2 protocol for the 1.4 TSI, We have a Mk5  booked in to carry out some trial mapping on our rolling road soon (A day of playing).
The first thing we will be looking at is how the added boost effects the EGTs, two holes drilled in to the down pipe to install wideband lambda & EGT pick probes.  The problem with modern chraged engines is the  loss of power due to higher boosted EGTs, the ECU will dump in the fuel to keep the temps down which will result in a loss of performance,   We have also been asked to get this engine running and mapped in to a Caterman to run on a standalone OMEX system,  His current C20let engine which we built and mapped on Omex D600 to 412bhp 2 years back offer too much power, its fun but when comming out of the corners you want to soil your pants.  I can see this engine taking over the roll of the rover K-series engine and the 1.6-litre Ford Sigma lump.

Answer to your mods question = Get the gasses flowing at a faster and cooler rate,  performance exhaust de-cat, uprated FMIC or charge cooler and good induction wil a nice gold air flow.
