Why would you?
Seems a rather expensive, not very useful option to me.

Mk7 GTI. DBP, DCC, Winter pack. Mine since new, July 2013.
GTI no. 4. Golf no. 5.  VW no. 7.

Agreed. Plus doesn't work properly with the iPhone so a totally pointless option.

Actually mcmaddy is right, this is an interesting question.

If you do not get premium phone then what phone options do you have?
  • Do you get the induction aerial?
  • Can your phone share phone book?
  • Make calls with voice activation?
  • Play music from the phone?
  • Charge the phone?

Can you upgrade to premium phone later on if CarNet actually becomes available here?

I was hoping it might just be an upgraded Bluetooth unit but I can't find much info at the minute.

Assuming the standard bluetooth is anything like the previous generations then yes to all of the above except the induction aerial.

You will probably need a different roof aerial if you want to upgrade to a premium set up later.

Bit more than that I'm afraid bud. You would ,need the centre console inductive plate and integrated electronics, USB charging set, boot mounted phone electronics module and roof aerial.

Guess this wouldn't be cheap or easy to retrofit ?
