Welcome back Shaun  looks a good project.
There doesn't need to be. Ill make it so. Uve given me an idea now.
Yeh, next years next year. Plenty of time to save for that expense...
Ill hold off... But only for 2 months. (Should give you insentive then)
Yeah wasnt cheap but saved a lot by getting parts from volksheaven in doncaster. I am planning on doing a build thread as it was dire before i bought it. Lol i was actually thinking of doin the roof in vinyl to look like a boat. In all its took roughly a year to get to this stage, its been hard but theres no rust at all on it now thankfully
I take it you're living in the van, then?
Shout me if you need any nolidge about T25s. I've had a few.
Normally with a bit more grunt than a DG though.

Sweet van. Never mind what state it's in, you've got a van and it's got MOT. Enjoy.
I'm borrowing my mates T25 camper next month for a road trip, I'm probably going to come back wanting one.
Good to see you back here Shaun.
Looks a nice project. Hope things work out.
Jonathan.

Errrrm, without going into any detail I will say this, the suspension is surprisingly firm when parked up

Is a two minute test really sufficient?
This looks awesome. I so want one!
Loved my T25, good purchase dude!
Mine was a blue panel with a homebrew conversion. Sold it due to never using it after our honeymoon and used the money to buy the Golf.
nick
Exhaust looks loads better, respect to you for fitting it sounds like it was a complete ballache.
You'll find undoing the engine bar mounting bolts on either chassis rails will allow you to lower the engine and gearbox as a unit a fair bit, still connected at the front.
That would have given you a lot more access.
Oh well.
It will run a lot better with a good exhaust system - the WBX likes a good, correctly sealed system on it very much.
You're just lucky that you weren't taking off the exhaust at the manifolds. Those M8 nuts will be wasted away and the studs will probably shear and they're in a nice soft alloy head, which you do NOT want to take off!
Check the condition of the petrol pipes under the van and make sure they're good. Losing the whole van to a fire would not be a good look and for the cost of a few hoses/bit of hardline it's a safety measure worth taking.
Having a camper is f*cking great. We're desparate to get another one when funds allow.
Also check the water pipes that run underneath and that your temperature guage works. The last thing you want to do is overheat one of these as you're into head off territory and as Tom has said above you DO NOT want to be going there.
Nick
The WBX motors are great until you have to take the heads off.
Because it's an alloy block and head with steel head bolts there's bimetallic corrosion on the studs - they go brittle and snap, leaving the remains of the stud in the block. The only way of getting the remains of these studs out is pretty much spark-erosion.
The 16 litres of coolant should be changed every other year to try and minimise this corrosion (although probably a bit late to help yours too much!). Changing the coolant will also prevent the rubber block to head seals from hardening and then starting to leak.
Drive it hard and regularly and it should continue running happily. Pussyfoot around it and you're more likely to get problems.
Petrol fumes when the tank is full suggest there are breather pipe issues on top of the tank. If you don't know if these have been replaced it would be worth dropping the tank and replacing the breather network. While it's down make sure it's well painted on top, as the steel tanks on the 2WD vehicles can rust out on top.
I've been pondering about buying my old one back but I just don't have the space for it!

No, no - you don't have anywhere near enough vehicles in your fleet at the moment - you should buy it ASAP.
Check the vacuum pull-down on the dizzi as well as the timing.
I sold it to my mat who lives in the block of flats behind us. It's parked just by where we park all our cars, lol.
I've been musing buying it back for a while, he doesn't use it, it has no MOT and he's thinking of selling up and buying a car. Since he's had it he's put a recon engine in it and driven it about 200 miles in 3 or 4 years.
Nick
1.9 DG wasserboxer with an Empi twin exhuast and K&N filter for noisey induction. It went like a rocket and had into 3 figures on the way to porsmouth once.
Nick
I can't see the pix at work but assumed it was an Empi. It will rust badly and quickly, they are shocking quality but sound brilliant. My first one was dead within 18months.
When I got triple figures it was completely empty and I may have been racing another empty T25 panel van to see who's wasquicker as he had a 2.0 Aircooled one. We called it a draw as we both bottled it.
Nick
poor golf getting neglected I see :lipsrsealed:
Split charge relay.
Well that's not fair now is it... You could have given someone with no experience of campers or dual battery setups a chance to have a guess.

For reference I have never owned a camper, or a split-charge relay.
No experience with either?

Never owned either.
hasnt alan had alternator issues
Nice one!
My dad had a T25 camper (B reg, same burgundy colour as the front of yours)
His had the folding type roof that folded to the side and had a canvas wall that turned the roof into a double and single bed. It also had a full camper interior including fridge and stove. Loved that van.
He recently sold it for £1500
Mostly cosmetic IIRCNice one!

Really, what kind of condition was it in, I would have bought it! 1500 is cheap.

Rust on the arches, which had been treated then painted, but the paint didn't quite match...
Interior was a little bit scruffy, and the canvas tent for the roof was a bit ripped in places.
I think there were engine issues too but I'm not sure what exactly.
Still. he sold it to the carpenter who owns the yard round the back of his house so the camper's still in exactly the same place!
Think it was a 1.9 engine.
He had to sell it to help fund his motorbike trip to Mongolia (which he's on now)
My step mum was telling me how she heard the van fire up the other week and it made her sad!
The thing that worries me is that neither my dad nor the bloke he sold it to are the types to restore something.
They both will just bodge it to keep it going until there's nothing left to bodge, which is a shame because my mum bought it originally about 10 years a go and it was great, then she sold it to my dad which is when things started to go wrong
just stick them orange ones on - NOW
Just rip the tints off and get them on
Ooooooo there's an idea - harlequin
And who cares if it looks ridiculous
1, the misses is driving it to action
B, it would make the golf look better
Win win - get them slammed on
Harlequin FTW! :afro:
